Understand one thing......I did not vote on a false promise..........If I was forced to vote I would still vote out. However I am not so narrow minded as to not listen to what other people in the uk is saying and thinking. I have my own main reasons for my decision (Not open for discussion and no amount of persuasion will make me as I have said before.) If there was another vote and I had a choice then I would abstain (Which in truth I should have done at the last referendum) As I have said throughout discussions on this subject there were several reasons for my decision to vote out.
I lived and fought for this country because I believe in it wholeheartedly. Also if I'm borne again no doubt I would be prepared to do it again. I am not denying it would be better trade wise to be in with the EU. Which is what we joined with nothing else.
We did not have the power or the wherewithal to stop or change all the other things that have changed.
Oh we had a veto but not the guts to use it. Some are good or acceptable some are not. I have expressed my feelings so many times over and over again and again. Most of you don't agree as is you're right. So be it......I see it as being bullied by the EU, ok you do not fair enough. Just remember my generation grew up without the aid of the EU trust me we did better than ok. It was a natural phenomenon to trade with them. Remember France didn't want us in and in my opinion are not making it easy for us to trade again outside their influence.
This country can and will stand on its own feet and prosper, given the chance with or without the EU's help and make a damn good job of it. Trust me the EU the way its going will implode eventually. Thats my belief and I accept probably none of you will agree. Time will tell.....I doubt I will be around to see it and nor will some of you but it will happen imo. Some of you youngsters will witness it.

Boris, ·the "Almighty Saviour" has promised to do this. Surely, what he has promised, he will then deliver, despite his track record that suggests otherwise. The "Great One" is coming to save us.

Pardon me, but do we have to compare Widdicombe with a trout? Trout is a marvellous fish, as is any species of animal, so we need to work on better, uglier comparisons to compare Annie with something.
Beddy, I apologise for only taking a bit out of your detailed and reasoned post, but this is the bit I think that most people keep thinking.
We did prosper in the 50s and 60s, but that may have been for different reasons (like rebuilding after a World War) and the fact that we were hardly going to become pals with countries that were trying to kill us just 10 or so years only.
The world is so much a different place now. Back then you didn't have the technology to trade and talk realtime in full HD video with anyone on the planet - well you could, but it would have cost you more than your inclusive minutes on your mobile. What I am saying is that the world has moved on - we need them and they know they need us. The British Empire is now unfortunately just old history and current pomp and ceremony. We don't manufacture anything in this country anymore - our strength is our service industry, and that will go when we leave.
I know a staunch leaver and a staunch retainer will never agree, but surely you can see that what you want just isn't possible.
This is pretty much it.
I remember Beddy saying the same thing about our healthcare system being fine before the EU. But if you actually compare it litterally millions more people died under it. The main reason it is struggling to cope right now is because it is keeping millions more alive into old age and therefore spending much more time dealing with them. The technology to do so has become more expensive and more complex too.
It's a lot of looking through those tinted glasses without really noticing how we've progressed and how much our economy and industry has integrated with the EU to our benefit.
The ageing population is one of the reasons, but for me the biggest reasoning is struggling, is the year on year increase in spending, which is the lowest increase per annum since the NHS began.
The need for an increase in spending per year is because of the increase in price of modern equipment and population it covers. Different link in the same chain as it were. So yes, i don't disagree. My point wasn't that it was struggling, It was actually that it was doing better than before we joined the EU, because it is coping with more challenges. Under funding is one of them.
Not forgetting of course we have another 20 odd million people in this country but at the last count not too many more doctors than the 50s & 60s to cover that number. I get the impression the government would rather spend money on wars and their own salaries than getting more doctors in.
Wars make money for influential people, so you are probably right on that point
Last estimate was that 12.5% of the 1.2 million NHS employees is an immigrant, 5.6% from the EU. Go figure.

You never hear a Tory politician ask about how much a tax cut for the rich is going to cost in lost revenue. You never hear them ask about how much a war is going to cost.
What you do hear is how much it's going to cost taking poor people out of the tax brackets. How much it is going to cost to fund the NHS, and all manner of services. Ridiculously, Farage wants to go to an insurance based health service. What a total f**kwit. Then we get an even more tilted society. The man is seriously deranged. We should be closing the gap between the richest and poorest, because if we did these services would become affordable, and nobody would be asking if we could afford them. But Tories and extreme right-wingers like Farage either don't get it, or they do get it and they'd rather the poor just died. Personally, I'm going to cut them some slack and suggest they aren't brain dead. They DO get it..

If you 'spare' [verb] something, you cease to use it or use it far less. If you have two of the same thing, you use one of them and the other literally becomes a 'spare' [noun].
Spoiling the child must be obvious. These days if you indulge a child too much, in terms of its whims and desires, people will often say that you're 'spoiling' the kid. But back when that old phrase was coined, if you didn't beat the child with the rod/stick you were spoiling the child, whose only real desire was to be loved and not beaten.
That's the Victorians for you.
