It's a shame because I think that Corbyn might do great things for the poor and disadvantaged members of society, in power, unfortunately I think that his appeal is too narrow for him to ever get elected as PM (a bit like Michael Foot in the 80s) and the left of centre vote is getting more split by the second.
So rather than remain in the Labour Party and argue his corner (like Corbyn did for 30 odd years on the margins) he spits the dummy?
Forgive me if I put that down to a classic celebrity tantrum. Get over yourself, Tony.

I'd normally be inclined to agree, but this is something of a 'stand up and be counted' moment. The only way that Brexit gets put to pasture is if proceeding with Brexit becomes an existential threat both to the Conservative and Labour parties. And the only way that happens is if they both start hemorrhaging votes and members. I'm perfectly fine with members deserting/mutinying until someone there comes to their senses.
I didn't pick anything. You are posting here at 8 in the morning. I posted early morning when Sunderland was being talked about.
And the narrative here is of "remain parties making gains." Yes I voted Green. If there was no green I would have voted Lib Dem. Lots of other leavers have also. We voted for options that weren't the main 2 parties and with no "leave option" on most people's ballot then Lib Dem and Green were the only protest options.
So yes they will have attracted lots of people to them but they also were on the receiving end of a lot of protest votes.

You obviously didn’t get the message that a lot of Brexiteers were spoiling their ballot papers by writing “Brexit” on them. You vote for something, you live with the consequences. That’s the way FPTP works, and until we get a proper voting system it always will.
The incontrovertible fact is that both Remain parties made massive gains, and both Brexit-supporting parties, particularly the Tories, made staggering losses. Only one conclusion can be drawn from that.

Whatever deal May and Corbyn lash up still has to get through Parliament. Emily Thornberry said yesterday that she thought any deal should go back to the people, not just one that the Tories try to push through on their own, so I think (hope) that a second referendum will be the price for getting it through. The problem is that if a deal's agreed and both the Tories and Labour whip it through hard enough, they could get a majority.
It'll split the parties but (and I'm not joking) May has (apparently) told people she's regularly praying for guidance and think God wants her to deliver Brexit. So she won't care about splitting the parties. She's on a mission from God. And if you think that, you care about nothing else.

There’s been enough defiance of whipping on both sides already in the Brexit saga, I just can’t see enough Labour MP’s voting for a May-Corbyn deal, and certainly not enough Tories. Not without a second ref as a sweetener, anyway.
