Just so you know, Immigration isn't what the NI border issue is about. Hard or Soft border wont change the immigration policy. Its about the mechanisms enforcing the border (both EU and UK want the same thing) and how we can govern it with 2 separate governments instead of one institution.

Quite. A soft border is also written into the Good Friday Agreement.

I accept that VM.......I was generalising rather than being specific.........maybe we should let them be independent. I know that’s not going to happen just a flippant remark. Like us all fed up to the teeth with it all.

I mean, absolutely; if the desire is to have fewer people, tanking the economy will certainly help. The primary reason that the UK (and Germany) have high rates of immigration is that they're desirable places to be from an economic standpoint, and the continued economic expansion of those countries requires immigrants. The UK unemployment rate is very low; the people moving to the British Isles are doing so because there are jobs to be had, and jobs that need to be filled. It's a mutually-beneficial arrangement in the main.

But, I mean, if the goal is to tank the economy in order to make the UK less appealing to immigrants, there has to be a more entertaining way. Like, bet the national budget on Saints to win the PL in 2019-20 or something.

Scotland leaving the union is more than probable post brexit. Another border to control. Brexit really is the road to nowhere.

Not true Beddy. We were/are in, so we know exactly how trading, movement of people, security intelligence, forces, employment laws, food safety standards, product manufacturing standards, etc were/are and any changes would only be evolved.

Now we don’t even know how much it will cost to bring a product to the UK or sent it the other way.

Beddy, if immigration was one of your “things” for Brexit, prepare for worse to come.

    Beddy...

    Post one you said Immigrants

Post two you said illegal immigrants

Brexit, Remain, live on the moon.... none of these stop illegal immigration (well maybe only one does).

This encapsulates a lot of leave voters errror in my view (a lot, not all).

I think the only way to resolve this would be to use VAR.
That would stop all the arguments. :bandit::emoticon-0136-giggl

Mate I really was joking about sending illegals to Scotland. Honest I just don’t see things the way you guys doesn’t make me right just as it doesn’t make the oppososing views right. Mind you I do agree the whole things a mess.

Edit.......I agree with you about illegals. Even with the ups and downs and our reputation about as low as it can get. They still want to come here. Mind you we have had illegals coming since not too long after the war.

I went on the march yesterday, not because I think we’ll get another referendum (probably too late, and the damage to our international reputation is done now anyway), but because I am frustrated and angry at the way the views of a 16 million people are barely listened to, while the voices of a small minority of extremists in the DUP, and the lunatic fringe of the Tory Party, are constantly deferred to.

Some of the placards were hilarious. I liked the really tatty cardboard one that said: If David Davis made placards...

In truth Beddy, there's plenty of information about the effects of brexit see the wiki entry. There are verifiable sources and links to follow for clariccation

That's just one there are others plenty, which, in general, agree it's not a good thing. Of course there's a need to check the background of any site, how and by whom its funded and so on.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economic_effects_of_Brexit

"The economic effects of Brexit were a major area of debate during the Referendum on UK membership of the European Union, and the debate continues after the Leave vote. There is a broad consensus among economists and in the economic literature that Brexit will likely reduce the real per-capita income level in both the UK and the rest of the EU.[1][2][3][4]

Supporters of remaining, including the UK treasury, argue that being in the EU has a strong positive effect on trade and as a result the UK's trade would be worse off if it left the EU.[5] Supporters of withdrawal from the EU have argued that the cessation of net contributions to the EU would allow for some cuts to taxes or increase in government spending.[6]"
