Wonder how many corrections they will end up printing this week, Guido has it's own list of the constant corrections she has to make due to her version of "artistic licence." https://order-order.com/people/carole-cadwalladr/ You'll be posting up Verhofstadt's tweets next..........although the comments on his tweets are worth reading:
You're factually incorrect. People who are claiming asylum are not "illegals" in any way whatsoever under US law. They are legally allowed to stay while their asylum case is reviewed. You're also seem to be implying that forcibly taking children from their parents (in some cases parents were told the child was being removed for a bath then not returned) is a price worth paying in order for a civilised nation to send a message to potential immigrants. Vin
Yeah, not sure how anybody can support making an example of children. Even Trump has come out against the policy although seems to be blaming it on democrats naturally.
David Dimbleby is stepping down from Question Time, after 25 years. Might I be the first to suggest that he is replaced by someone who won’t be afraid to robustly challenge everyone who sits on the panel, and not give an easy ride to the MPs who represent the political party he supports. Someone like Frankie Boyle would be interesting.
Frankie Boyle would be superb, and I might become a regular watcher again for the first time since Robin Day retired. Pretty sure Frankie wouldn't want the gig though. I believe he suffers from depression occasionaly, having to talk to politicians every week might push anyone over the edge.
Some interesting polling (or disturbing for some I suppose) polling by Lord Ashcroft on the NI issue. polling on whether people of NI and ROI (seperate polls) think there should be a referendum on unification etc. Seems even in NI it is about 50/50 at the moment. ROI of course is much higher in favour. https://lordashcroftpolls.com/wp-co...d-The-Union-Lord-Ashcroft-Polls-June-2018.pdf
9% is much higher in favour? According to that most in ROI would be in favour but don't see it as practical so are against it. Maybe in the future seems the general viewpoint. NI higher in favour than I had realised though.
?? For the ROI one on page 33. 9% is the figure not in favour!!! 91% are in favour (including those that say "but") 9% - I am not in favour unification 56% - I am in favour but it would not be practical 35% - I would like unification.
ah yeah, i corrected that but must have deleted the wrong one when i realised i ****ed up the quote. i was just pointing out NI was more in favour than ROI. the 56 are not in favour.
They are, they just don't think it is practical or affordable "in the next few years." That segment starts "I am in favour." So the 56 ARE in favour of unification but don't think it's "doable" at the moment. They would like it to happen at some point, just not now.
That's like saying I'm in favour of buying a yacht. Im not. As far as compairing it to the NI question like you did it would be 37% in favour. There's just a load who WOULD be in favour if the situation changes but are currently not in favour. Future tense, not present. Korea has the same problem in terms of hypothetical vs reality and has not come close to unifying
We are doing what politicians do here and choosing what we think the result means. To me it says they want it but don;t think it is feasible at the moment. They aren't saying they are in favour of winning the lottery (or getting a super paid job) but the probability is very low to EVER get to that state (your yacht scenario.) They are talking about something that will probably happen eventually. It is quite probable they will end up at that stage. Just a question of time. 5,10, 20 50 years? The odds of you affording a yacht are in the millions. Not a time limited thing, just not very probable that you (or I) will be a millionaire in our lifetime. My family (dad's side) is ROI. To me it seems an inevitability, just how long it takes is in question. I keep buying lottery tickets though so maybe I'll buy you a yacht "when" <--- I win.
Its not a time limited thing, its limited by the situation. You're last sentence, despite being a joke, was actually close to what i meant. unless the situation changes im not going to buy a yacht. unless the situation in NI changes they wont unify. ( i do like to take extremes so i can understand why you got confused, i wasnt talking about odds though) Brexit is of course a big change in situation although if you believe those polls the republic believe it will actually take them further away from NI, despite saying they think they will unify eventually like you are.
