Yep this is it. Sadly society seems to make excuses for those people nowadays compared to 20 years ago. Social media has a lot to do with it I feel. Or maybe it come in cycles similar to the abhorrent racism rampant in the 80s for examples

Social media definitely a huge factor in my view, seems to have removed balance and nuance from a lot of subjects and pushed people deeper into respective ideologies.

Social media is quite often poison .

Like everything in life . You don’t get something for nothing !

Because I don't believe that criticising the Israeli government equates to hating Jewish people per se.
I strongly disagree with a lot of the actions of Netanyahu but would be horrified to be described a some sort of racial or religious bigot.
Nah criticising the Israeli government isn't but sadly many people take it way beyond that.

It's multi-fold:

- there are a hell of lot more people than 20 years ago, so even if the percentage of the population that is extremist is the same, the volume is higher.
- they are generally an outspoken / action oriented minority.
- social media has enabled the proliferation of information much more freely.
- social media has enabled an anonymisation to a lot of interactions
- the internet in general has made it easier for those impressionable to those ideals to be targeted and manipulated from afar.

It's a problem that isn't easy to solve but it's one that we must strive to solve.

Unbiased education is the core of it and sadly that is denied in some way shape or form to a large proportion of the next generation.

No child is born an extremist.

Something let the genie out of the bottle about a decade ago, can’t think what…

Nowadays, people who used to keep quiet about their views feel vindicated in expressing them.

Apologies if posted before….
Essa Suleiman was jailed in Swindon crown court in 2008 for 9 years for stabbing a police officer and his dog, and had been put on a extremism prevention watchlist.

Politicians access to social media has also massively decreased balance and nuance. Some of the claims from across the spectrum are absolutely shocking. Previously we'd only hear them interviewed or on panel shows. Now they can play to their gallery and post stuff which would see any other public servant on a disciplinary

EYE EYE!
Donald Trump’s repeated insults towards Keir Starmer over the UK’s lack of support for the US attacks on Iran gave the embattled PM a rare boost at home for being seen to stand up to the US president. But the UK is helping the US rather more than Trump’s complaints might suggest.
Starmer refused US requests to use their UK bases for “initial strikes” on Iran. But once Trump started the war, Starmer performed his familiar manoeuvre – the U-turn – allowing US bombers to attack missile launchers in Iran that were involved in attacks on UK bases, Gulf allies or ships.

HIGNFY
"Reform say if they come to power they'll put migrant detention centres in areas that voted Green, inspired by Nigel Farage's policy of not visiting areas that voted Reform."

I do think that Farage is unfit to govern, not only because of his policies but also because of the donations and lack of accountability. The JCB donation is just the latest after the Crypto currency issue and the non-payment of tax by Richard Tice. It is baffling how Angela Raynor was force to step down by what was effectively an administrative error by her agent whereas Reform seem to consistently get away with financial matters that are totally inappropriate.

I do find it worrying that none of the donations have led to charges of serious misconduct nor been sanction of the committee of parliamentary privileges. There have been no police investigations and no candidate from Reform has ever been asked to step down where rules have been broken.

Rayner was hounded out of office by the press. That’s the same news media that tried desperately to hound Starmer out over the Mandelson appointment; the media that, having begun to perceive him as a credible political figure, is now doing an orchestrated hatchet job on Zack Polanski (who was accused to his face of antisemitism by Trevor Phillips. When Polanski pointed out that he himself was Jewish, Phillips gave him very short shrift).

Contrast this with the free ride Reform receives from much of the media, including the BBC which has done more than any other outlet bar GB News, to promote the Farage brand.

Was going to post similar. Dig into any of the parties, or any organisation for that matter, lift the carpets, open the cupboards and there's the dust and skeletons. The muckraking rightwing press in particular don't let the truth get in the way of a malicious story.

I see the whingers are getting their excuses in early.

Wrong thread. Everyone knows that jokes should be posted on Goodhand Arms.
