Absolutely. But help them from a position of strength. Don’t repeat Russian talking points and give up Ukrainian land without involving them.
That is betrayal. Almost the whole western world can see that. Tories. Labour. Even most of Reform. Only MAGA cultists are seeing something else…
The either/or has been going on for three years.
Putin will not walk away from this war without some kind of “victory”
Either the war continues as it is and maybe one side wins or we most likely stick at this stalemate
Or the west gets more involved to try and tip the balance for Ukraine and potentially escalates the situation with a nuclear opponent or we find a peace deal which ends with Russia getting “something”
They don’t have a position of strength, though. And they never will.
They can’t beat Russia. They never could. There is no conceivable way. They’ve only lasted this long because the American tax payer has been paying unbelievable amounts.
And that is completely unsustainable. I genuinely don’t know what the alternatives are. It’s a battle of wills/attrition and you’re playing against a ruthless, evil psychopath who will never quit.
He won the moment he chose to attack Ukraine to be honest. Millions dying to defend an indefensible position. It’s horrible but it’s the reality.
The EU and Biden would have been better to have acknowledged that originally. Instead they encouraged the war and actively stopped peace talks!
Is the answer really to keep throwing billions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of lives at the situation? Or is it to accept some compromises?
I don’t know as I’m not Ukrainian. If I were, I’d imagine I’d want to fight until the bitter end.
But I do know how the American taxpayers feel. Because I feel the same. This whole thing is ****ing pointless and should never have happened. There were much better ways out of this, not just in the last few years but in the last couple of decades.
Everyone accepts Russia will get something. What nobody should ever accept is Trump repeating Putin’s lies, disparaging Ukraine, telling Putin he gets everything he wants, demanding Ukrainian assets…
It is disgraceful and UNDERMINES the peace process.
You keep sidestepping the issue. Trump has chosen to align with Russia on this and to attack Ukraine out of petty vendettas of his own. I keep saying I agree with trying for peace but this approach is disgraceful and anyone who says different is a traitor to the West.
