Yes, I agree. That is what I meant by now is not the time. Nevertheless they must eventually be held to account.

Poland's far right president has narrowly won reelection. They have made clear that they consider this a mandate to dismantle free media, after having dismantled an independent judiciary. Eastern Europe is in a very troubled place.

I’d say that he’ll get on seriously well with the U.K. government because I fear that this is a plan here too .....

I was reading this morning that “it had emerged that travel insurance would cost more when the EHIC ends, in January”.
This has been obvious from the moment Brexit was voted for, and may mean that I can no longer afford to take my wife to Spain.
Our travel insurance is already higher than most, owing to her medical history, but we have been able to get some, at a reasonable price (£145 last time for 2 weeks) as a result of having the EHIC.
Out of curiosity, I used a comparison website to check on the cost of travel insurance, for a 3 week break in September and the prices were around £2000.
AND THAT’S WITH THE EHIC STILL IN USE!
I will be contacting our usual company, in the not to distant future, should there be a window of opportunity to travel, to see what the cost would be.
But hey, with the new advertising campaign, the government get to roll out another 3 word slogan. CHECK, CHANGE, GO.

Three cheers for the three word slogan. :emoticon-0121-angry

Yeah, exactly, StB. I forecast that there’s going to be a ****load of crowdfunding appeals next year from gammons going abroad with no insurance (“no one told us this. Must be Brussels fault”) and getting injured or ill.
My brother is 71 and won’t be able to go to Europe because of the insurance costs (he has ongoing medical conditions) and I’ve not yet dared to look .... it’s a ****ing scandal. What’s god chances that one of Dom’s mates can offer “cheap” insurance with a bit of government funding?

Don't get old or sick in England, insufficient facilities or staff pre brexit, post will see greater shortages in care and NHS.

I have just read Alan Johnson´s interesting autobiography, "Please Mister Postman." He comes across as a well rounded person, whose views were shaped by his many experiences. Furthermore, you realise what a well read person he is as an individual and also in his various roles as a union official with the CWU. As a union official he was tasked with settling disputes through understanding the situation and negotiating. Ultimately he became a senior figure in the Blair and Brown governments.

Why am I talking about this? It is because he is a builder, a constructive negotiator, something that is totally lacking in the Johnson Government which is all about destruction and tearing up the treaties that enabled us to have frictionless trade across Europe.

Interestingly I read this immediately before the lockdown. I had an hour to waste and went into the local library and picked up his book. I ended up staying all afternoon. There are two others apparently, also with Beatles song titles. I'm not sure his exact position on Brexit as he seems very laid back about accepting the " Democratic Mandate". Usually this means in my experience a degree of sympathy to the principle of Leave.

Latest economic news: the recovery will be "L" shaped rather than " V" shaped. I hate to boast but, remember where you heard it first! Now add Brexit and stir. It's oven ready folks...straight from Pfeffel and Cummngs' kitchen. A tasty, home made slump.

And now we are sending an aircraft carrier to threaten the Chinese. You couldn't make it up with this government. I do believe that the Fleet Air Arm museum has a Fairey Swordfish torpedo plane. Maybe put that on board.
