I've been waiting all my life StJ, no sign of it yet... :emoticon-0101-sadsm
There's been progress, the great leap is yet to come, we certainly need the likes of Billy Bragg and John Cooper Clarke. Who could we dedicate this to, I have a couple of names in mind.

Like a Night Club in the morning, you’re the bitter end
Like a recently disinfected ****-house, you’re clean round the bend
You give me the horrors
Too bad to be true
All of my tomorrow’s
Are lousy coz of you
You put the Shat in Shatter
Put the Pain in Spain
Your germs are splattered about
Your face is just a stain

You’re certainly no raver, commonly known as a drag
Do us all a favour, here… wear this polythene bag

You’re like a dose of scabies
I’ve got you under my skin
You make life a fairy tale… Grimm!

People mention murder, the moment you arrive
I’d consider killing you if I thought you were alive
You’ve got this slippery quality
It makes me think of phlegm
And a dual personality
I hate both of them

Your bad breath, vamps disease, destruction, and decay
Please, please, please, please, take yourself away
Like a death a birthday party
You ruin all the fun
Like a sucked and spat our smartie
you’re no use to anyone
Like the shadow of the guillotine
On a dead consumptive’s face
Speaking as an outsider
What do you think of the human race

You went to a progressive psychiatrist
He recommended suicide…
Before scratching your bad name off his list
And pointing the way outside

You hear laughter breaking through, it makes you want to fart
You’re heading for a breakdown
Better pull yourself apart

Your dirty name gets passed about when something goes amiss
Your attitudes are platitudes
Just make me wanna piss

What kind of creature bore you
Was is some kind of bat
They can’t find a good word for you
But I can…

Today is a Bank Holiday in the UK. Having read my Bible, Bill Bryson's "At Home," I learned that the concept of a Bank Holiday was due to the work of Sir John Lubbeck, a member of the Liberal Party in the late 19th century when he helped push through the Bank Holidays Act in 1871.

Thank you sir, you are very much appreciated.

Not today it isn't , it usually is I agree , but it's been moved to Friday 8th to commemorate 75th Anniversary of VE day .

I find that very sad!!! The day is about celebrating "workers." It is a mighty cheek to have it upstaged with yet another memory of the 2WW. When the hell is the mindset of the UK going to move beyond commemorating WW2?

When I think of the UK's achievements I think of the 19th century and the likes of the Stephensons, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, Dickens, the Great Exhibition of 1851, one of the biggest years in the UK's history.

In the 20th century I think of the setting up of the Open University under Wilson, which enabled people in a technical job to improve themselves and get a better one. My friend in Liverpool was a technician at Bass Charrington, During his time there he studied for six years with the OU, graduated and then went to do a PGSE, and went on to teach Chemistry. I am sure many others have found themselves another career through the OU as well.

Add to that improved workers rights, the NHS, the revolution in technology and communicaion, ….. and WW2 pales into insigificance. That is just my view. Perhaps in two generations time it will have become as memorable as the Napoleonic Wars, and the country can move forward in its thinking.

And onto to the 21st century and it is the Olympics and the sweeping changes we see architecturally in our cities.

VE Day is an excuse to get rid of this year's Labour Day. Just watch it disappear and a New Bank Holiday date will be found that suits the narrative of this Government that commerates a British victory in some glorious war.

PS: 1968I think} is a special year as that was the only post-year war when not a life of a service person was lost in combat..Why? The UK was not engaged in a conflict anywhere. Thank you Harold Wilson!!!
