You won’t be, unless you’ve taken it out with EU post Brexit coverage. You’re welcome.

There is a very insightful video doing the rounds from Channel 4 News as they try to interview Farage about being a kept man. The discomfort is there for all to see. What a nasty little man he is. You can see it here: https://twitter.com/Channel4News

  5. So just out of interest who are people who are willing to say it (it is a secret ballot after all ) going to vote for on Thursday? If you're in another member state it would be good to know a little bit about your chosen party.
I'm voting Green because they are the only party to promise unilateral nuclear disarmament and it's the one policy I care most about. Over to you guys and girls.

I am actually a member of Bundis 90' die Grünen in Germany (ie. the German Green Party) although die Linke have the closest policies to those I believe in - unfortunately they don't have the personalities in the party to actually achieve their ideals, and they are too fundamentalist - not capable of working with other parties which, with PR, you have to be able to do. If I were in the UK. I would vote Green - in a General Election there I would vote tactically, ie. for the party most likely to defeat the Tory candidate (unless it was Ukip in that role).

I had a postal vote. Heading the list for the Brexit bunch was Moggys sister, so that alone would be enough to rule them out. Corbyn's bunch I haven't a clue where they stand. May's mob have tried to pull the wool over the eyes of the public, and are as split as Labour. So I don't vote for either of them because they are being dishonest. That left two. LibDem or Greens. Now as I am a centre minded person with social fairness strongly in my beliefs I could have voted for either of them, although some of the Greens financial policies are a bit left of centre for my liking. The East Midlands where my vote goes has not got much of a Green presence, so after a discussion with my ex-neighbour Hezza, we both decided that the best bet for registering our protest was to go for the LibDems.

I have voted Liberal/ Lib-Dems since I was 18 because Conservative governments only look after their own sometimes even at the expense of the economy and Labour alway put the country second to their misguided policies to make everyone equally rich even the ones who have no intention of ever doing a days work in their entire lives, the Liberals have always appeared to me me to be a party who would both protect the economy and protect those genuine;ly in need of help

LibDem. Always have done. Even after they jumped into bed with the tories because I still saw no credible alternative and other reasons below. I disagree with UND so the Greens won't get my vote. I will not vote for JC. And certainly not the self-servative party or the "pound shop Enoch Powell".

Dan asked about the EU elections in where we live outside the UK. As you drive around France at present every town hall has a row of billboards for the political parties to paste their posters on, very often about twenty or so as many of the small groups make a bid to get themselves known.
Big difference here is that it is actually about the EU. I cannot say what the tiny groups are saying, but non of the main players are suggesting that the country leaves the EU. Two years ago that was the policy of the FN, but having seen the chaos in the UK which has left most of the French shaking their heads in disbelief, that policy has been changed to remain. So the election is about what changes within the EU the parties wish to see. Immigration is of course one of the things that make people think. SH has tried to say that it is all the fault of Germany taking in refugees. He is totally wrong, as when I first started to come to France over forty years ago it was an issue then. Like the UK France was once a colonial power, and many people from those now independent countries have had the right to come and live here. How you deal with these immigrants is the issue, not trying to get rid of people you once wanted to come, but use any device to try and deport them as shown by the Home Office.
Climate change and what we are doing to the planet are being discussed in a sensible way, and clearly the Greens are making an impact. They may be about, but I haven't seen any comments trying to deny that there is a problem.
There is a far better understanding of how the EU operates and what benefits there are from cooperating with others on security, peace and equality than in the UK. The TV and press are very different. TV are doing daily programmes to inform and the press are not owned by people only interested in pushing for their own interests.
It is a great pity that the elections taking place in the UK are not about actual issues that do affect millions of people, but about selfish politicians wanting to be even more power hungry, and say what they believe will go down well with a badly informed population.

I voted Lib then Lib Dem since I was old enough to vote. I switched to Greens - partly on policy grounds, and partly on their failure in coalition. Not the fees issue, but Vince Cable didn't do enough at the business department which was a shame as I think he is a statesman - one of very few. The Greens are the future - even if I never get to see it. My grandchildren deserve better then the shower we have at the moment, or their likely replacement.

As far as I know Frenchie you have voting rights in France, at least in the European and Local elections - which party do you vote for there ? Also, if you vote postally in the Euro elections in the UK. do you have to inform the French authorities that you have done so - in order to prevent double voting in what is, essentially, the same election ?

Yes, I could have voted twice, but it is illegal. I chose the UK one as it has an effect on me, but more importantly my children and grandchildren. I did vote here last time, for the middle of the road Democrats, which went on to join forces with Macron and his new party.

Interesting point is that the election takes place over 4 days with Britain voting on Thursday and Germany on Sunday. This means that the British results can only be made known 4 days after the event, because no results can be announced, or even leaked (via exit polls) until all countries have finished voting.

Merkel's selfish decision had much to do with the rise of the far right throughout Europe. It showed the excessive power held by Germany. There is also great dissatisfaction about the running of the EU.

Le Pen would advocate leaving the EU if she thought it was electorally beneficial. She has already joined the powerful far right group from many countries that will change the new parliament for good. France remains one of the most eurosceptic member states.

Well while I have been doing a spot of planting, La Poste arrived with my election pack. 22 different parties, and a quick look shows that only one is talking about leaving the EU. I am sure that SH will be happy to join up with the extreme Parti Comministe Francais. :emoticon-0102-bigsm This lot will take some reading.:emoticon-0126-nerd:

I have a good book by the poolside thanks.
Le Pen's favourite far right party will push to leave unless the EU can be changed dramatically. You seem extremely naive.
It is all going against the Macron boy.

Probably not acceptable these days, but in my grandfathers day pelting politicians with rotten tomatoes was quite normal.

I am a green philosophically and ideologically. We HAVE to put our planet first.. I hummed and ahhed about what to vote in Yorkshire and Humberside.. Lib Dem or green.. And in the end because the chief Green candidate is such a good guy... Voted Green even though the better tactical vote would be lib Dem..
