There are only 2 people on the 606 Luton forum, and they managed to disagree with each other.

oh dear... I fortunately dont see the ignored members content...

I guess it must give him some sort of perverse pleasure which is why i call him a troll and dont engage with him...

I see he must have done it again....

I think we can all say that we never had any of this until he showed up.....

Unfortunately i guess we are all to soft wet and liberal and kind ( all the qualities we get abused for) to put up with it in the hope there may be the slightest softening of position....

If you take the bother to actually read the posts they have been conducted in a reasonable manner except for some insults from Toby.

I'm not sure anybody wants to be described as a wet liberal, I though they were wiped out at the last election.

    Yes that is true

We also used to make a lot of money from foreign students coming to study in the UK.. paying top whack fees and to learn English as part of the package. I know all about this. UK Uniiversities have lost out big time in rthe past few years as the Visa process has become so unwieldy. Many overseas students ( out of EU) now go to Universities in Holland, Denmark and France ( i am not sure about Germany) as it is easier to get a Visa and the fees are less <doh>

    These are facts..... <ok>

Forgot to add and those Universities teach the whole courses in ENGLISH

This one line approach to all these serious issues is so saddening really.... in some ways we are in danger of becoming in part a nation of small minded people who live by tabloid headlines.

There is of course some truth in all the arguments but how can we discuss them if people resort to rhetoric??

It's one topic where I don't see much room for 'debate' as such...

Not going to have a rant, too late for that.

All the best Yorkie, and COYH for tomorrow!!

Are you talking about small minded mirror and guardian readers? I know it is very hard to educate them.

Many parts of London, parts of Aberdeen for goodness sake, parts of Glasgow, parts of Edinburgh and don't forget Luton and Watford. It's a fact...

That is totally incorrect. Most people abroad speak English either from school or from the tourist trade. Coming to the UK to learn English is a con by dodgy schools not a real reason at all..

As Chinese is the most spoken language globally why aren't the masses heading for that economic power house which even now has growth 4 times our own and is a socialist country. Surely it's the country with all your ideal pull factors?

You don't learn how to speak fluent English at school. Trust me I went to school in France and did a Baccalaureat with language as a speciality. Living in a country is the only way you'll ever truly pick up the language properly.

It's not incorrect anyway, I've met dozens of people that moved to England to pick up the language.

Those are small areas in certain large cities, not 'parts of the UK'. What people always fail to overlook is most people are white, British people living in all those towns, by a factor of at least 10 most of the time.

We are talking about EU migration here too <ok>

Agree you only learn properly ny living a language which is why I'm fluent Spanish but my French learnt at school was good enough to work in French speaking North Africa became fluent living there. Do you deny people use "language studies" as a cover for illegal working for unscrupulous employers. Thes loopholes if not controlled lead to exploitation of migrants and reduction of opportunities for proper work for both legal migrants and nationals.

I never denied that it may occur, but that's not what you said.

As for your China example, it's not as accessible as England, you need visas, the alphabet is different and learning Chinese is not as relevant in most day-to-day industries. Moving to the UK to learn English makes much more sense, practically and financially.

This was about EU nationals moving to the UK, not non-EU citizens.

Pointless discussing this if you deny these small areas are part of the UK!!! I was unaware that I needed a passport to go to areas of cities within the United Kingdom but I bow to your greater knowledge of my countries aerial extent.... What I do not like is ghettos and thats just what we get if uncontrolled migration is allowed. Its not the migrants sole fault but societys natural reaction to non conformists coming in and it's a major problem. Over liberal policy on migration will result in an extreme xenophobic reaction, you choose whether to take a sensible approach in the first place or create a problem feeling you're helping when in fact you are not.

You can't on one hand say people are moving to learn the language as it opens most opportunities when there are more opportunities in another language. Yes exactly it's more difficult to get a visa for China, exactly the point being made by the lobby for more control of the border here!!! Most day to day industries, do expand... China has the broadest range and most competitive industries in the world. The reason the UK is relatively attractive in the European context is that we have less paper work, easier ID requirements, better growth, a thriving black market economy, perceived weak policing, good health service accessibility and the negatives here are a poor climate and not much else....
