Unless Ipswich beat Brighton tomorrow night and go top with 53 points. Should we lose on Saturday and Watford beats Blackpool, we'll be four points from the play-off places and 10 points behind the leaders. Every game is critical now but the Bournemouth loss certainly helps.
Oh ok, makes sense from what i'd read. Not going to concern myself with him leaving, always seemed he just wanted the managers job. New boss new start. Lets get the we can win any game mentality back a la lambert.
I think what Supers meant was five points from the autos, max, if we beat Brentford on Saturday (because the most second place will be on is 51 points). Not wanting to get too carried away... But if results fall favourably (like they didn't last weekend!) and neither the Binners nor Derby win and we beat Brentford then we could be four points off autos, albeit max 5th place and still behind on goal difference). Plenty to be positive about, let's just hope it all falls into place because while you're probably feeling a little lonely with your healthy dose of scepticism, RER, I think most of us on here recognise it could just as likely go wrong so inwardly I for one get where your coming from. However, at least Neil has given us a feeling of hope
Crossed my mind at the time too. I'm sure Phelan would have felt he had that game under control etc. Don't blame AN for diving in though and if it brought a likely problem between the two of them to the surface quickly, then better that than a long drawn out simmering issue. This way we nip the problem in the bud straight away and move on. Seriously though, we really don't need disruption at the moment... We've got games to win and auto spots to claim!
The last word of Rob's post is the key - 'hope'. I had very little hope of even a top six spot, let alone top two until two weeks ago. Now I've got hope in abundance. But that's all it is.It's reinvigorating though!
And I see Leeds beat Bournemouth last night, so anything is possible. The 'ball's certainly in our court' now and we cant afford any slip-ups!!!! I'm looking forward to seeing what can be achieved by the boys in Yellow and Green as we enter the final few months of the season.
We shouldn't confuse being a good manager and being a good coach. They are different jobs and the younger the players are the greater the difference. I still think Adams is a quality coach for younger players. Whether going straight back to coaching on his return or not I guess depends on whyy he resigned / needed a break. I would hope that at some time in the future he would return to a coaching role.
Neil is the manager. If he doesn't want Phelan then he goes, simple. I can't think of a worst thing to do than to appoint a very promising young manager and then undermine him by having someone like Phelan as an unwanted number 2. Neil is the manager he manages the team, picks his staff and the team and if he doesn't perfom he gets sack. If Phelan has so much experience and is so great then he should have been appointed manager.
I'd say 'realism' rather than scepticism, Rob. I can't help feeling that these expectations are putting pressure on Neil, who I very much want to succeed and develop a team for the future. I also hope we beat Brentford and the others lose so we can close the gap further. Hoping is great, but let's also brace ourselves in case things go against us so it doesn't lead to ranting and booing and all that divisiveness again should we find ourselves 6 points behind Brentford, 4 behind Watford (who play Blackpool at home), and worst of all, 10 points behind Ipswich.
I doubt the atmosphere will turn nasty any time soon. People are far happier with the new direction the club has taken than you give credit for
I'll be very pleased if you're right, Supers. Like I said, "I very much want him to succeed and develop a team for the future."
Yep, sorry that's why I included the word "healthy" because I think your position is spot on getting carried away could be even worse if it goes pete tong
Never said Phelan should be assistant manager, what I was saying is Phelan might of wanted an assistant managers role when he started at the club, but there was no assistant managers role available at the time so he was convinced to take a coaching contract, then with the new regime Neil brings in McAvoy as an assistant manager. No not in a million years, not for one minute did I agree with any of nutters that thought he should take over from Adams, also some people are happy to have post playing careers as assistant managers like Pat Rice at Arsenal etc.
