Cool day elsewhere - Middlesbrough 2 Rotherham 0 (so 2pts to the good over Rotherham) Millwall 0 Watford 2 (so 9pts to the good over Millwall, although they have a game in hand)
Hopefully of more relevance to Wigan and Millwall than us …. ”The Football League has charged Rotherham United with fielding an ineligible player (Farrend Rawson) in the club's Sky Bet Championship match with Brighton & Hove Albion on Monday, April 6, which the Millers won 1-0. The matter will be heard by a Football Disciplinary Commission which will take place at the earliest possible opportunity to ensure that it reaches its conclusion before the end of the current season.” Source: http://www.football-league.co.uk/news/article/2015/football-league-statement-rotherham-united-2397427.aspx#pAEGO1B0GbwWyy61.99 Could mean a points (3?) deduction.
It could mean a points deduction, but earlier in the season Blackpool got a fine for a similar offence, so maybe not. That said, I don't know what Blackpool's result with their dodgy player was, so maybe the fact that Rotherham won will count against them.
Thanks for the info, FI. It would be great if they get a pts reduction, but even if they don't we're no worse off than if this had never happened. If it isn't win-win for us, at least it's win-don't lose.
It would make for a very interesting scrap at the bottom if either Millwall or Wigan win that game tonight and we beat Rotherham. With a points deduction that will cut their gap to just 1 point. At which point we would be far out of sight.
At the moment I don't think we can say with certainty that we can be any of the pub teams around London!
As others have said in the ’Rotherham’ thread, squeaky bum time tomorrow night after that 2-0 win for Millwall over Wigan. As of this moment, with 4 games to play, they are 6 points behind us but (amazingly) have a poorer goal difference; -30 to our -21. Millwall still have to play: Cardiff (A) Blackburn (A) Derby (H) Wolves (A) Relatively tough on paper but they have collected a reputation for late runs in recent seasons. Not that it’s a straight fight between us and them of course. Rotherham are obviously well in the mix, regardless of that points deduction threat. Only 4 points ahead of Millwall and apart from us, still have to play: Norwich (H) Reading (H) Leeds (A) And Brighton who drew 0-0 with Huddersfield tonight, can’t count themselves safe - 7 points ahead of Millwall but with only 3 games to play, against: Wigan (A) Watford (H) Middlesbrough (A) However you compute or contrive permutations from those fixtures the bottom line for Fulham is in fact simple - point are needed. And arguably 6 points at that. And if we’re honest these have to come from the next two games since the last two - Middlesbrough (H) and Norwich (A) - are more than tough.
Cottager I had to have a little chuckle when I read maybe 6 points is still needed, I'm confident 1 point is needed that will put us 7 ahead of Millwall with a ten better goal difference, Millwall have 4 games left 3 away from home and two against teams fighting for promotion they WILL not win all four games, even if they win 2 draw 1 lose1 which I think is being a little generous a point will be enough for us as long as we don't take another big beating.
Having said that taking only one point from our last four games including Rotherham and Blackpool will extremely disappointing
The damage done to the club this season is on the morale and support of the young fans is significant. My daughter and a couple of other 6-7 yo sitting next to us said after the game against Brentford: "Why did you have to support Fulham?". That says everything to me. Obviously football has ups and downs but with so many clubs in London in the PL this question is very tough!! But we are Fulham and we march on! Are we? COYW!
Rotherham have indeed been given a 3pts deduction and are now only 1pt ahead of Millwall, 2pts of Wigan. Brighton are probably smiling the most though - please log in to view this image Makes the Decision to only fine Sunderland last season all the moe galling!
