Off Topic Pointless point-scoring thread

I know I know, I shouldn't be getting serious on the point scoring thread. It is just so tedious:

'Headline: Person sectarianly attacked'

ME: oh I wonder what Religion this person was?

'Story: A 1 year old Catholic baby was bottled in the head.'

ME: Oh dear, I wonder what Sinn Fein have to say on the matter?

'Story: Sinn Fein had this to say on the matter "it was prods!"'

ME: oh I never seen that coming.

Interchange 'Catholic' for 'Protestant' and 'Sinn Fein' for 'DUP' and you've pretty much got the structure for half the news stories in Northern Ireland.

Only half ? My, things are improving.

Well I think a dissenting voice is ok, it is when that dissenting turns to ethnic cleansing then we have to start to worry.

Isn't that the danger though - what at first appears the voice of reason turns out to be even more extreme for whatever reason? I watched some of the G8 summit reporting - didn't that nice Mr (and Mrs) Obama put forward the solution that everyone in Ireland should be nice to one another ... compare that rhetoric to the violent solutions/actions employed by him elsewhere in the world?

Gotta have a sound bite I guess. Ollie wanted a republic.... Sounds good to me. ....when he got one he cancelled Christmas.

I don't think Obama will cancel Christmas, but he'll sell us a sound bite and we can buy it. Yes we can.

Sound bites, like clichéd dissenting voices, are as helpful as a poke in the eye. Not as bad as cancelling Christmas I suppose ... though some might disagree.

I did enjoy that. Without knowing what underlying agendas were at play, on the face of it, Ms Daly's dissenting voice certainly made some interesting points whereas Mr Kenny's response came across as lacking in substance, inadequate and predictable waffle.
