To be fair ... it is ridiculous that someone gets 4 months for singing the Billy Boys!

Of course, the song has been decreed as offensive and "illegal" to be sung in public - so people should stop singing it but to be jailed for 4 months is ridic!

**** UP, YOU ****ING HUN APOLOGIST.

It may seem odd, it may even seem unfair to a blue blinkered staunch Protestant like you, Paul, however the law is the law and it's been like that for YEARS, so **** him. Deserves all he gets and i'd say the same if it was some backward Tim spastic.

The people who get done for this **** aren't normal functioning members of society, they're the *****loid dregs in the support who need to be wheedled out.

    **** THE POPE

This is the biggest load of ****e i've read in quite a while, it's patently clear the writer lives in London and does not have a ****ing clue:

On 1 February, when Rangers were playing Celtic at Hampden Park, Lamont sang one of the fanbase’s favourite songs as he walked along a street to the game. The song was ‘The Billy Boys’, an old sectarian loyalist ditty first sung by Glasgow’s razor gangs in the early twentieth century and later adopted by Rangers fans as a way of riling their Celtic rivals. The song starts ‘Hello, hello, we are the Billy Boys’, and contains the line ‘We’re up to our knees in Fenian blood’.

Simply for singing this lewd tune which for decades has formed part of the stadium-based, mostly harmless wind-ups between Rangers and Celtic fans, Lamont was jailed for four months. So not only was Lamont deprived of his liberty for committing songcrimes — he was also turned into a sacrificial national advert of what will become of anyone who mis-sings or utters something the authorities consider offensive. This was a showtrial, designed not merely to resolve a ‘crime’ (some crime!) but to ‘send a message’ to all Brits, especially that throng of uncouth Scottish football fans, about what it is acceptable to think, say and sing.

How can judges in Scotland behave so tyrannically? Because of the Offensive Behaviour at Football Act, a repugnant law passed by the Scottish National Party in 2012. This act gives the authorities carte blanche to punish severely any football fan who says something they don’t like. It outlaws sectarian chanting, singing and behaviour at football games, and also on the way to games or in pubs in which games are being shown. It criminalises the ‘expression [of] religious hatred’, wiping out, in one foul swoop, the traditional songs and chants of Rangers and Celtic, who have long mocked each other with scurrilous words.

The focus on ‘circumstances’ cuts to the rotten heart of this law. What it means is that football fans, especially Celtic and Rangers ones, can be punished for things others are still allowed to do. The Lamont case shows how twisted the category of ‘incitement’ has become. There’s nothing inciting about ‘The Billy Boys’. It doesn’t instruct anyone to kill ‘Fenians’, far less offer advice on how to do so; it simply makes colourful reference to long-gone clashes between Protestant and Catholic gangs.

And so in Britain in 2015, on the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta, with our leaders crowing about Britain’s great traditions of freedom, a man has been jailed for singing a song. Where is Amnesty, currently fighting to have a Saudi blogger released from jail but silent on Scott Lamont?"

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What planet is this stupid **** on? Comparing the plight of a Saudi Blogger (1000 lashes and 10 years in jail) to that of some wee Ned who will do about 2 weeks in pokey? Get to ****.

The Police State is with us.

Serious crime rates have plummeted, now the ****s are making up laws to punish your average spastic.

Dev's usual hyperbolic ****e "sectarian hate song" is exactly the mindset that the law makers want you to adopt so everyone is offended about everything.

I've sang the Billy Boys in the company of my Kafflik pals, they've sang DOB back, it was banter, it's what football rivalry was all about... now they want football to be sterile and devoid of the WUM element.

Of course, the Billy Boys doesn't mention Kafflicks, it mentions Fenians and it seems that a lot of celtc fans are happy to call themselves that, and as we all know, the fenians were gangsters and not necessarily Kafflicks so this song is political then using Suvul Logic.

    Creasing here FFS <rofl>

Around that date, it's a ****ing goldmine. Such gems as "Elbows says Ally to become managerial great" and "rangers to become a leading force in Europe".

It's hard to actually pinpoint my favourite moment these last 4/5 years.
