Speaking about Guidetti’s TV appearance, Nil By Mouth Campaign Director Dave Scott said Scottish football chiefs need to do more to educate players about terms likely to cause offence.
He said: “Just a few weeks ago the SPFL knocked back our bid to become its charity partner. We offered to deliver awareness training to players about words, phrases and actions which are likely to cause offence or controversy. “This would have been particularly useful to players from outside Scotland. This incident highlights once again the need for such a programme with players.”
Celtic have been approached to comment on the footage, but have yet to respond. Tonight a Celtic insider said: “John was asked to sing the song that is sung about him. “He doesn’t know what the song is about or the content of it but to suggest there is any sectarian element whatsoever is absolute nonsense.”
