Rangers fan gets two-year ban after Nazi salute at Firhill youth cup final
A Rangers fan has been banned from attending football matches for two years for making a Nazi salute at an Old Firm youth cup final.
Kevin Brannigan, 28, made the gesture at the Celtic v Rangers under-17s Glasgow Cup match at Firhill Stadium on April 29.
The match was the first meeting of the two teams since Rangers were liquidated and reformed to join the bottom tier of Scottish football. The kick-off was delayed as supporters set off flares and smoke bombs and damaged seats in the stands.
Around 6,000 people attended the match, including school children and families, police said.
Rangers won the game 3-2.
Brannigan, from Glasgow, was filmed by police making the Nazi salute towards Celtic fans.
He pleaded guilty to the offence and was given a two-year football banning order at Glasgow Sheriff court today.
He is banned from attending matches in the UK and is required to report to a police station during certain games.
Stephen Ferguson, football liaison prosecutor for the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service, said: "Brannigan's actions are unacceptable in any environment but the symbolism of the gesture at a sporting event, which could incite disorder and in front of school children and families, is particularly offensive."

Celtic continue to support the Irish Republican cause by giving ten grand to a charity that will make sure the British government will keep sending dopey young Hun canon fodder to places they shouldn't be and therefore coming back in a box or without limbs.
Meanwhile the most loyal club in the history of clubs donate a "percentage of the profits" of sales of shirts with bloostained poppies on them to thick ****s. That'll amount to all of 200 quid..... They might as well do a massive **** on the cenotaph.
The same thick ****s who used to support a team that made sure those thick ****s who enlist in the army went to war spears instead of guns, helmets or body armour.

Former Sevco chairman Malcolm Murray has accused Alan Brazil of not being Scottish.
Murray was invited onto TalkSport this morning to give an update on the crisis at Ibrox with administration expected by some before Christmas.
Brazil won 13 caps for Scotland and played at the 1982 World Cup but had his Scottishness dismissed by Murray
“Remember one of the reasons I was asked to do this by institutions was I was Manchester United’s biggest shareholder,” Murray claimed at the start of his ramble.
“When I bought a quarter of Man United it was almost exactly the same size as Rangers are now but it’s turned out to be a giant global brand.
“The reason that Rangers and Celtic are global brands, in my view, is because the Scots built the British empire and there are Scots everywhere. There are more Scots in Canada than there are in Scotland, Australia, South Africa, America.
“And then on your side of the fence Alan, which I know less about, the Irish were, didn’t quite.”
Brazil butted in at this stage saying: “Excuse me I’m Scottish by the way, I’m Glasgow born and bred.”
Undeterred Murray continued: “The definition of the name Brazil comes from Southern Ireland and if you check it out you’ll see what I mean by that. The Irish also travelled the world, not for quite the same reasons as building the British empire which we did but because they emigrated to America and so on.
“So if you put Rangers and Celtic together the globalisation is fantastic, at the moment we are in a small position, we are acting as a domestic brand.
“These are genuinely global, if you look at the stats last year, and one of the few things that I agree with Charles Green on, our crowds were regularly the fourth biggest in Britain.
“Arsenal, Newcastle and Man United ahead of it, and as Neil (studio guest Warnock) has seen they are watching a slightly lower level at the moment, so God knows what will happen when we get back to the top which is inevitable.”
What's the saying in the video!? I cannae watch it at work...
