I'm not even sure "ultimatum" is the right word.

I'd say it's more of a threat than an ultimatum.

Poch and Morgan's statements are a definite positive for me...it's not good to have that much riding on Cortese's decision (or the trust's decision about Cortese), but it's much better for them to be making their positions clear than to have the trust in the dark about the state of the club. Have to hope that they come to their senses, though, or this gets ugly.

The problem is that we don't know what is causing the rift between Cortese and the owners. If the owners aren't willing to put the money up to fulfill Cortese's ambitions then he will leave. If its one of the numerous other possibilities then I think he will stay

It does appear to be that they want oversight and are balking at further investment, which is why it's so problematic. But even if they don't know the first thing about football, they surely know that a player/management exodus holds a very real threat of devaluing their asset.

I think I would prefer if the players stayed out of it. As Schad says, "it's not good to have that much riding on Cortese's decision". For me, that is a bad thing. Don't forget that as well Cortese being used to getting his own way, these are rich people who will similarly be used to getting things their own way. The more this comes across as them being held to ransom, the more I can envisage them digging their heels in.

Of course, like everyone else, I actually have no idea whats going on!

Which is really rather odd, as she's on holiday on the continent. Perhaps the gasps travelled long distance..! :)

Pompey friend, if Poch and Cortese go, I've had it with this club. It will have shot itself in the unambitious corporate foot once too often for me. This football club has tippi-toed a few times in its existence with making the step towards commitment to success and each time has doubted itself from within, not without. Nowadays, the fans don't really believe it. I can't blame them. It's a safety measure so that they don't suffer the gut wrenching disappointment of yet another let-down. But I'm not satisfied or interested in mediocre anymore. I pretty much did it for a while when Lawrie left, and now I'm older and wiser, so if I really want to cut off my enthusiasm and support I can do it. Believe me, it'll hurt, but the pain will disappear after a while and I'll be done with football, and this time I won't come back. I've plenty of other things to distract me.

But I live in hope for better, led by this Chairman, his Manager, and this current crop of players, and those into the future. May they succeed in their project like no other Saints team have ever done before. Are we and they on the threshold on the most exciting times ever for this club..? Are they seriously going to take it all away..?

That much is riding on it whether the players make themselves known or not. I'd much prefer that they say as much rather than remaining quiet, and then angling for a move if Cortese et al depart.
