I think he would have been a terrific signing. The guy has balls, a winning mentality and is still capable of playing in the PL for at least another year. And as Spurm says, he would have been a great asset to the learning curve of some of our younger players.
That's the kind of move Harry would have made and it suggests MP appreciates the value and need for an older head in the team.
Fascinating because it seems to fly in the face of what we assume is the overall plan i.e. an older player and big wages. Think it goes without saying that he would have been a very good signing both in the short and long term.
Publicity seeking twat...glad he chased money instead of trying to play on in the premier league. His comments about wanting to stay at liverpool but they didn't want him are so full of bitterness...he knew they'd release that interview on the eve of united v liverpool... I can't stand the dick and am glad he ain't at spurs
I'm not sure how he'd have fit into Pochettino's system. His legs aren't up to the closing down aspect anymore. Not sure he'd have been worth a starting place either, going by his rather leggy performances in some of last season's games. He wouldn't have been happy with anything less.
He can still command the midfield and make good decisions on ball distribution. He's the closest we had to an English Pirlo and a great pity the England managers did not leave either Lampard or Gerrard to boss our midfield and didn't stop behaving like greedy schoolboys in a sweet shop by playing both.
It's the leadership and organisation he would bring which would make a difference. Any 35 year old midfielder would need others to do some running for him, but you've got younger legs in Benteleb and Mason.
Gerrard seems put out that Liverpool wouldn't keep paying him £150k a week when he's not up to the pace of the PL anymore. I'm sure he'd have been a good asset for us but he'd have to play as a number 10, where he's more effective and I doubt we could've afforded him anyway.
Would've been a brilliant player to have around the changing room and training ground, but as most of last season proved he's no better than a mid-table player nowadays, a step below what we need. Also no way we would've come close to his wages so unless he was willing to take a 50% cut I'm not sure how it would've happened.
