Preston North End are delighted to announce that Jacob Slater has signed his first professional contract with the club, keeping him at Deepdale until at least the summer of 2025.

Slater, who joined the club at U12s level, was a key player in the U19s' title-winning campaign last season, and went on to make his first team debut against Huddersfield Town in the Carabao Cup back in August.

The 17-year-old has signed a two-year professional deal after impressing first team boss Ryan Lowe, and has been a regular in the travelling squad for first team fixtures this season.

Speaking after putting pen to paper on his deal, Jacob said: "The last two months or so have been brilliant for me and I never really expected it to all come this quick but I'm really happy to get it over the line and I just want to continue trying to progress now.

"I definitely didn't expect to be here, it all happened really quickly, I was playing with the youth team and then two weeks later I was making my debut for the first team.

"I think that's credit to the gaffer for giving young kids the pathway and they know now that they have got a manager that will play them if they are doing well and I think that Preston North End is a brilliant place for a young player to be."

Manager Ryan Lowe added: "I'm really pleased for Jacob, credit to him and his family really, he's obviously burst on the scene from the youth team and he's come up and trained with us for large parts of the season and stood out fantastically well.

"He made his debut in the cup, was on the bench in the Championship and we feel he's got a decent career ahead of him at Preston North End, hence why we wanted to tie him down to a long-term contract.

"This is why we say to all the kids that they have to make a very good impression when the manager or the first team coaching staff are watching, you have to make sure you perform. Jacob did perform in that Charnock Richard game and ever since then he's been up with us and he's continued to progress on a daily basis and hasn't looked out of place.

"We know he's a real asset and he's one we're really pleased to have tied down."

Preston North End’s Championship game against Reading has been moved to a 8pm kick-off on Friday 4th November after being selected for television coverage.

PNE were initially set to head to Berkshire for a 3pm kick-off on Saturday 5th November, but it will now be shown live on Sky Sports on the Friday night.

The trip to the Select Car Leasing Stadium will be the final away game prior to the break for the Qatar World Cup.

Our 2022/23 Championship fixtures against local rivals Blackpool will now both kick-off at the earlier time of 12.30pm, following police advice.

The first of this season's derby clashes takes place at Bloomfield Road on Saturday 22nd October, with the return fixture at Deepdale on Saturday 1st April.

Blackpool have also confirmed that the club will be given a total allocation of 2,082 tickets for the fixture at Bloomfield Road, with ticket details to be confirmed in due course.

Felipe Rodriguez-Gentile incredibly scored five goals to help Preston North End progress to the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup, with a 6-1 victory over Rotherham United.

It was the visitors who opened the scoring early on at Deepdale, but PNE quickly turned the game on its head, with 16-year-old Rodriguez-Gentile scoring a hat-trick before half-time.

A quickfire double between the 31st and 34th minute saw the Brazilian overturn the visitors’ lead, before he then hit an incredible strike into the top corner to give his side a two-goal lead at the break.

He scored twice more in the opening stages of the second period, and Kitt Nelson then netted from the spot to seal progression, and in the next round PNE will face either Gillingham or Wigan Athletic.

North End started on the front foot on a bitterly-cold afternoon at the home of the first team, with both Nelson and Ellis Horan seeing shots deflected wide.

Adam Clark gave PNE a warning sign five minutes in, heading a corner against the crossbar, and then on 16 minutes Archie Day met a similar set piece in the air, this time finding the bottom corner with his headed effort.

Tommy Davis was then called into action just ahead of the half-hour mark, diving to his left to deny Ben Hatton who struck powerfully towards goal.

That stop proved important, too, as just a few minutes later North End went down the other end to take the lead, with Nelson’s blocked shot falling to Rodriguez-Gentile, who stayed calm to slot home for his first of the day.

Two minutes on, the forward then got his second, taking the ball down well from Finlay Wallbank’s cross from the right, and sending a finish underneath the goalkeeper.

His hat-trick was then sealed in the 44th minute and in unbelievable fashion, too, as he took aim from 25 yards and incredibly found the top corner.

He wasn’t done there, though, as his fourth of the afternoon arrived 57 minutes in, when Josh Seary burst down the right and pulled it back for the Brazilian to finish into the roof of the net.

That pair combined once more just four minutes later when Seary sent another great cross into the box and the forward flicked a fantastic header over the top of goalkeeper Nat Ford.

PNE then had a sixth on 66 minutes, but this time it was Nelson on the scoresheet, calmly slotting to the goalkeeper’s left from the penalty spot, after substitute Theo Carroll was brought down in the area.

From that point, North End remained in control of the tie, and coming up next for them is a fourth round tie against either Gillingham or Wigan Athletic, who face each other on Tuesday evening.

PNE line-up: Davis; Wallbank, Best, McGhee; Seary (Eccleston, 77), Kamara, Horan, N.Mawene (Carroll, 63); Pemberton; Rodriguez-Gentile (Havard, 83), Nelson. Subs not used: Nicholson, T.Mawene, Wilkinson, Carroll, Brindle.

Rotherham United line-up: Ford; Seisay (Shepherd, 62), Douglas, Day, Jenkinson; Grove, Ja. Champion (Harris, 62); Nisbett, Jo. Champion, Hatton; Clark (Ayres, 80). Subs not used: Hamilton-Lund, Roddis, Mare, Zack, Ayres.

Huddersfield Town have been fined £6,000 and Preston North End a total of £5,750 by the Football Association following a first-half scuffle in their Championship game last month.

Both teams were deemed to have breached FA rule E20.1, after a flare-up following a challenge by Town's David Kasumu on Preston's Ryan Ledson.

Kasumu was booked for his role in the incident, before a melee began.

The clubs admitted failure of their players to conduct themselves properly.

Huddersfield won the match on 26 December after a late comeback

Preston North End striker Ched Evans is expecting to return next season after having surgery on what was described as a "serious medical condition".

The 34-year-old made 28 appearances for Preston this season, scoring nine goals, but the club announced in April that it had consulted with specialists.

In an update on Preston's Twitter, Evans said: "I'm five-weeks post-surgery. The surgery went really well.

"They removed some bone and some plates which were compressing my spinal cord."

The club had previously said that the condition may have "potentially life-changing consequences" but Evans has received positive news about his recovery.

"My neck will be as strong as ever," he added.

"I'll be back next season, doing what I love to do, scoring goals and winning games with Preston."

Following Rob Kelly’s departure from Preston North End in August due to personal health issues, he has today taken up the role of assistant head coach at fellow Sky Bet Championship club, Rotherham United.

Rob departed North End with our best wishes and we are delighted that he is now back in full health, and everyone at the club wishes him good luck for the future.
