    • Plymouth Argyle v Colchester United [Saturday 29th October 2016 15:00]
    • Venue - Home Park, Plymouth, Devon, PL2 3DQ.
    • Forecast - 14°C; Light Cloud [LINK]

We’ve massively racked up the miles on our travels during October, following fruitless trips to high-flyers Carlisle and Doncaster, it’s another 622 mile round trip on Saturday as we visit league leaders the Pilgrims of Devon. Plymouth’s Home Park is one of our main bogey grounds, for we still haven’t managed to win a league game at this venue in 17 attempts – a hoodoo that has lasted over 66 years (since a 1-7 reverse in October 1950). A 100th minute extra-time winner in a FA Cup 1st round replay in 1979 remains the only success at this godforsaken South Western outpost.

The Pilgrims are currently on a 12 game unbeaten run in the league, which has taken them 4 points clear at the top of League Two, as they look well poised to make a return to the third tier of English football after a 6 year absence. 67% of the goals Plymouth have conceded this season have been at home.

We’re currently on a miserable 7 match winless streak, with just 1 win from our last 11 competitive matches, as we free-fall into the lower reaches of the division. One would assume our ploy of keeping things tight on our travels, to try not to lose, will continue here... While we’re not leaking as many goals away from home, we’re not scoring many (just 5 to date) or for that matter adding to our points tally (6 points from 21).

Full Time Result Probability: Plymouth win 56%; Draw 23%; Colchester win 21%.

Argyle fan and long time season ticket holder just popped over from my own board. Great preview above, thanks. Interesting game this and one that I am slightly nervous about. Having only dropped four points out of the last 36 available we are the most in form professional team in the country and will clearly start as favorites. We are however a better team away from home park than at home so it is far from an 'easy' win -if there is such a thing in L2. On some occasions we have struggled to create really good chances against sides who can play a pressing game, defend the midfield area well, and most importantly can maintain this discipline for the full 90+ minutes. If you don't and we are in the mood we might rip you apart with some slick one touch passing. We also always have the potential to make a defensive mistake-usually about one per match so it will be a question or whether you can take advantage-if not, given your away scoring record it will probably another clean sheet for us.
So on balance I expect a low scoring fairly scrappy affair- 1-0 to Argyle will do just fine.

Safe journey if you are travelling and enjoy the match.

Cheers, well on one hand I’m not expecting much given the trajectories of our two clubs are the moment. On the other, the law of averages says we’ve got to win at your place and you’ve got to suffer a hiccup at some point – hopefully on Saturday! We do play a stifling pressing game on our travels, we did a tremendous job at shutting down a free-scoring Doncaster a couple of weeks ago. Alas we cannot concentrate for 90 minutes, unforced school boy errors are killing our season, gifting the opposition a couple of goals every week: turning off at a free-kick, forgetting to leave someone behind at a set-piece, or the goalkeeper fumbling catching practice etc. Can see this one coming down to fine margins, I'd settle for a 0-0 draw for sure.

What's this lyndhurst? Giving information to the enemy? What have I told you before? "Don't tell them Pike".......

Be honest now we never set out with a confidence that we will win a match do we. We are programmed Argyle supporters who have sufferred years and years of torment and let down.

10 out of 10 for the match preview Colu. I knew you wouldn't be able to resist it. Just one error. "godforsaken South Western outpost" It isn't god forsaken, he actually lives here. <doh>
