.. now I didn't discount such possibilities entirely I just stressed the need for real perspective... Citeh for instance will still crush poor teams with their quality. ... but if you turn up like we did with players like Kante and Mahrez you can outplay them ... Kante had Yaya in his pocket in both games with him (and Silva) getting subbed at the Etihad having been rendered ineffectual. ..and that is the reality of why clubs like ours are now making statements as opposed to the big boys merely having an off season...
Also, we've got 4 points from 6 from Man City and Spurs but lost twice to Arsenal and lost away to Liverpool. We drew at home to Man U, yet to play away. My point is, we've dropped points in those games to our current position is more down to all the games we've won against the rest. Done the double v Watford for example and Norwich. It's those games that have enabled us to reach our incredible points total and whether the big boys are off form or not, that doesn't affect how we play against Watford and Norwich
I'm starting to wonder if the top teams are as good as we think they are. Take Chelsea, they won the Premiership last season, they were far from dominant and just took it, after having a poor first half. They've been exposed this season for lowering their level, which would not have happened to a top team 10 years ago. Arsenal are perennial underachievers in the league and always have drops in form at key moments, this season is no different. City is one team that is genuinely under performing, but you've got to ask yourself again, are they also as good as we think they are? Manure haven't been the same since Fergie left, but the last couple of years in his charge, they were going downhill and Liverpool have been pants in the league for quite some time. Although it is a surprise to see Leicester the top the league, they've been far from lucky. They've played very good and gutsy football to maintain their position, something the top teams can't claim. They've just wanted it much much more than the rest. Complacency wins you nothing.
... just a personal view but I do believe the Eva Carneiri impact and associated Eden Hazard sulk was detrimental to their campaign..
