We had a similar problem <ok>

Hopefully we've sorted that too, hopefully.

Last season Arsenal had the second best defense in the league and the best over the final run-in.

At the beginning of the season when we where chopping and changing our back-line we had individual errors from Verm and Sagna cost us some goals, but this was solved when we settled the back-line (dropped verm) andthe team started to defend as a unit.

p.s. the idea that Ozil won't have any effect did give me a goodlaugh :p

A team that can go to Norwich and not create a single half chance in 90 mins has problems in the creative department

Less than half your budget? Who told you what the budget was?

I think you've got the wrong end of the stick, Spurm said you should look to strengthen even the strongest areas if you can and I said not if you have a limited budget. It wasn't particularly Arsenal related but if you want to make it Arsenal related then let me know what Kroenke said the budget was and we can discuss how the £40mill plus that you say is spare could have been used to sign better players than the frees and loan you brought in.

The remaining transfer budget could have been used to great effect by bringing in a striker. I completely agree with that.

I think it's obvious that we tried to land a top quality striker and when none of our main targets where available we decided to settle on the temporary fix of bringing in Ba on Loan (to sort us until January or for the season until we can bring in one of the really top class strikers we wanted). Unfortunately Mourinho pulled the plug on this deal last minute.

I expect us to go in for a new striker in January.

Think a lot will depend on Giroud. He's been on fire so far so a "top quality" one may not be a priority if he continues his form, just someone who can cover well if need be.

You still have Bendtner in the squad, I'm sure he'll do a job <whistle>

What do you mean none of your main targets were available? Higuain and Jovetic were both sold so how were they not available? There were plenty of top strikers available over the summer and Wenger played 'wait and see' ending up with none.

We seem to have got back around to the point I was making initially. Ozil's an excellent player and a great signing but you still have problems in depth and quality that are unresolved. We'll have to wait and see but I don't think you've made any big steps forward over the transfer window. You guys were supposed to be spending big over the summer and becoming title challengers, according to you guys. As it stands I think you and us are still closely matched and I won't be surprised if it comes down to the final game again with us.

I'm putting Giroud in my fantasy team. The guy is looking too good and we need to jinx him.

We had agreed a deal in principle for Higuain and so it was expected he would come to us. Madrid then came to us and said the deal was off unless we would up our bid by £10m+ as Napoli had shown late interest and where willing to pay more. Unless we where willing to largely over-pay for a player after having already agreed a deal for him (making us look like idiots) then we couldn't have got him. And tbh i dont think he is worth £35m.

Jovetic we cooled our interest in before City even went in for him. He wasn't the finisher we needed and i think we where more interested in playing him behind the striker in the position weh ave signed Ozil for, or out on the left with Cazorla inside.

We also failed to bring in Suarez or Benzemaas there clubs wouldn't let them leave and the Rooney deal was only going to be possible for silly money, especially after Chelsea had there bids rejected.

So as i said - i think once it got to the point that none of our main targets where available we would have settled for Ba as a short term fix.

I agree we have some depth issues at the moment. Our first 11 and 18-man match day squad are very good. But with a few injuries in particular positions we could end up in trouble. Couple this with our attempts to land a striker and i think it's clear we will try and strengthen the squad in January. If we can make it that far and still be within touching distance of our goals then i think we will be alright.

Personally i'm happy with the additions of ozil, Flaminiand Viviano and think it was a good move in the right direction. We have no deadwood left (other than Bendtner -hahahaha) and so everyone is worthy of there place in the squad.

I did read your whole post. The fact you think we will ship goals 'like last season' proves you have no clue what happened last season.

We had the second best defence in the league last season. Can hardly be described as shipping goals...
