Playing the 2nd string yesterday

Said to me that its obvious Adkins and Cortese view the Premiership as the big ticket and not the cups but did they take into consideration the manner of the defeat ?
Its was always going to be a tall order playing a Leeds team with anything other than a full strength side so I think the white flag was flown before a ball was kicked , now to my point , should we demand that the competition is repsected and also the paying fans going there ?
Did they or us or the competition deserve to be put aside for the sake of staying in the Premiership ?
If yes then surely why play in it ? We would love a piece of silverware in the cabinet and no one would deny its overdue for a club of our size so why did we play that team yesterday ?
That gamble failed so so badly as not only has it put more pressure on Adkins it has put pressure on the team to now get a result against West Brom which they could of done without , hence I believe we should of made the Cup our friend and fielded a strong side , people may say injuries and suspension but an injury can happen at any time and we have been so timid in the physical part that that would not of been an issue .
 
We should have played a stronger team, but with only a day between matches, most of those who played vs spurs would have been well below par.
 
the cup is a waste of time for a team like us that should only concentrate on survival. Do you not realise in the other 2 cup games we played a 2nd team with a couple of first team fringe players as well? it was only 2 days since we'd played and understandable to be resting first team players. The only complaint I have is claiming to pick the youngsters and then pick Davis over Gazzaniga. When Gazzaniga played in the other two cup wins, the league win and the league draw. If we'd played Spurs on Saturday and Leeds tonight I imagine the team would have been stronger but we didn't have that luxury so rested players and pretty much kept to our cup selection policy
 
most of those playing were in our first team last year with some good youngsters, NA probably wanted to see if any of them would step up to the plate and demand thier place in the first team, none of them did so it is thier lose and now NA knows he needs to clean house
 
Well it means a lot to Leeds and Bradford and they are both going for promotion this year , are you honestly telling me we dont have a team that could of challenged Leeds as we played two days before ?
If so our squad is a ****ing sham .

The lack of depth and quality is apparent , it will take a lot of time for the academy to produce 50% of the team , in fact I doubt that could ever happen nowadays as the desire to win is far too much , a beautiful if naive notion .
 
Our first team would have struggled against Leeds at Elland Road. You also need to understand Leeds aren't likely to get in the playoffs so getting as far as possible in the cup is very important to their season. We need to survive and that is our main concentration.

Whilst I say this we put out Eleven players that consisted of 2nd team and fringe players. Each and every one of them should have been treating this game like a cup final trying to get into the first team. I didn't see the game but from what I've read, heard and from the stats we were well below par even for the eleven we put out so it's unacceptable
 
If there were a better team yesterday surely adkins would have played it? or is it adkins who is the problem? At any rate , the problem will need to be fixed but surely all the good players or managers are already taken and will not be available . I do not think the team can improve solely by picking up others' trash?
 
We have a very very weak squad if thats the case , have we or should I say they underestimated the conditions in which you need to survive a season playing 2 cups and the premierleague ?

I have to agree with you about the lack of depth although I take a different view in regards to the academy over time it is possible to have up to 50% although to achieve this it will take a lot of time. Probably around 10 years or more.
 
Thats great the long term , in the meantime we could be yo yoing and selling our best players , when West Brom were doing that it was no good for their squad , its only since they stabilized that they have become a good team .
We need to buy as our team/squad is painfully obvious very weak , and as you say if its a 10 year wait , well thats a players career away .
 
You won't answer my question. How can Saints improve by purchasing players that are not wanted by their current team? If those players were any good they wouldn't be available. Even if they were available, the only way to acquire a player is to pay more for that player than anyone else is willing to do and if that player were as good as saints believe then surely those other teams would be willing to pay the same amount?
 
Exactly my point. If the team wastes 12 million pound on Ramirez , when they should of bought 6-7 defenders then how will further buying help when it is obvious the players purchased are not useful?
 
They should of bought 6-7 defenders with premiership class , Ramirez no matter how good he turns out to be he will not be pivitol in our survival as we will continue to conced at the back , you build from the back .

Ramirez was and is a good signing but only along with others , the others with quality just never arrived .

He was in short a Cortese folly .
 
This in turning into one of the funniest threads I have ever read. 6-7 defenders!!!! What would we have done with all of them, or should we have copied QPR's business model and signed 2 new teams?
 
How Ramirez be a good signing if it was folly! He has only played two games for us? If no other team thought he was worth 12 million pounds then why were Saints dumb enough to pay it?

If Cortese cannot recognise how poor his back four were , then the simple purchase of 6-7 defenders is enough? I would say given their judgment, they need to of purchased at least 11 defenders just to get the 6-7 premiership defenders required. so why did we not but 11 defenders in the transfer window?
