Hate is a very strong and emotive word. I've rarely hated anyone directly in my life and certainly not footballers merely because of actions on the field. There are some that I strongly dislike. Dennis Wise - cold clocked his then team mate, Calum Davidson, with a glass ashtray as he opened his hotel room door having lost heavily in a card school earlier in the evening. Davidson's crime was that he had retired from the game having won substantially and particularly at Wise's expense. Act of a low life coward. Got no time for any player who beats up their 'WAG'.... or any woman.... Not fond of serial cheats / divers Any player brandishing an imaginary card should be awarded with it ...
He's got a point though, eh? Was going to open mine with, I never really hated any as I'm not 12 years old but, FWIW, Martin Keown got on my tits somewhat. As did plenty already mentioned who i can' t be arsed to repeat. Bar Dennis Wise, that **** should have just been put down.
Cheers Chief ... I usually do have a point, even behind the veneer of irreverence... much to the irritation of a few fan boys who seem to consider that this place should be their exclusive playground .. In fairness to Spurmie, he's OK... not one of the very precious tyoes... gives and takes in equal measures ... and will do for me .... As you say, there are plenty of players to dislike . .there are also some who gain your, albeit grudging, respect ... IMHO
Gerrard was one such player from me, a player who gained, lost, then gained my respect again. Hated him when Chelsea and Liverpool had their european rivalry and when he snubbed us, then he gained it by being a consummate professional and a local legend for his club, then lost it again when Chelsea fans applauded him off the field in his last PL game and he responded by being a disrespectful **** in the interview after the match saying he didnt care that Chelsea fans applauded him, then gained it again a few months ago by saying he was out of order in that interview and he regrets saying that
I went to his returning game; drew 2-2 with Derby; he scored to put them 2-1 up but his teammates refused to celebrate with him
Chelsea fans giving him stick all game about slipping over might have had a impact on that interview like...
Yeah it was bantz though, it was a light hearted joke. When he came off, he was shown respect and given a standing ovation. Chelsea fans sing that song at every ground, its weird, last two away matches I went to, we sung that song (Neither were against Liverpool)
