He was. Played the first season we got relegated from the old First Division as a striker. Even started a couple of matches in goal. (We had another outfield player started a couple of matches in goal the same season, John Hewie. Things were different then!) Peter missed a sitter in our final match home to Blackburn Rovers and never lived it down. A draw would have seen us back into the top level but the visitors won 3-4. Peter never quite made the grade and went back to South Africa.
Quite a few of the late 80s team left then came back. As well as Williams, Mortimer and John Humphrey, Mickey Bennett also had a second spell with the club. Mustn't forget Alan Curbishley as well!
Technically you could count jonnie Jackson, was on loan, got injured and went back to county before we signed him up...I'm clutching at straws here!
