They never happened. It's all a great myth invented to torture us. Theo and Gareth just appeared, hugely talented, out of the Academy, and we sold them for peanuts.

We sold them for decent prices at the time...being forced by circumstance to let their sell-on fees go was the killer.

That is just specifics. The transfers were still peanuts. OXO went for proper money.

I agree with this at the start of the season, but anyone who glances an eye over the second half will realise how much improved our defence was - nice and tight and only the odd goal for a lot of games. Not the best in the PL I agree, but by no means the worst and I think they both will improve with the better quality alongside.

Second half of the year, we did a much better job of denying teams the time to make the decisive up-field pass that so often left us in ruins earlier in the season. However, when they did get the ball ahead, we were still prone to the odd moment of chaos.

Now, the same can be said about a lot of teams that play a high line...Spurs had a rather remarkable talent for looking impenetrable most of the 90 minutes, while surrendering a couple goals by way of catastrophic meltdown. But we do need them to remain well-organized and fundamentally sound when teams resort to punting the ball; direct teams caught us out all too often, both in the first and second halves of the year.
