That Swindon game where Saga came on for the last 9 minutes was a horrible era known as pre Lambert. Matt Paterson struggling upfront and a want away Polish international on the bench of a league 1 side. Supporters can be funny and 2k saints fans all doing the international hand signal for sub. When Pardew finally made a change it was the biggest cheer of the night from the traveling fans. Think we all left with a question mark over Pardew. Stephen O'Halloran?
Couldn't place Matt Patterson, so looked him up. He was Academy Player of the Year once for us and now plays for Burton Albion. Shows that the transition from bright Academy player is not easy and the transition was probably not made easier by timing during our transition from dark to light.
Remember that. Am I right in saying that Pardew had Raziak warming up for about 20 minutes too? It made me think we couldn't afford to pay an appearance fee or something and then he went on with a minute to go. I didn't give a loud cheer; I was sat in the Swindon end. As for doubting Pardew, wasn't this game about a week or two before Huddersfield away, when trailing 2-1, he put on a CB?
That's a bit harsh! He was a brilliant signing, the impact he had in the championship was immeasurable really. Bit shaky in the PL but was a bit of a scapegoat and was dependable enough toward the end of the season. Kept Fonte out of the side.
True. I was of the personal opinion Fonte should have played ahead of him but he was exceptional in the Championship which made it a very worthwhile signing.
Oh I think he was brilliant for us in the Championship. Last season he scared the **** out of me. Neither JF or JH were that convincing throughout.
Yeah, that's easily my most memorable game of our Championship era. Saga's second goal was ridiculous, we passed the ball as well as we do now, and the Wolves fans were pretty cool about it. Also that was one of Bialkowski's best games too.
I was travelling at the time of that Wolves game, remember going into internet cafes in Thailand with my fingers crossed that we would have won and keep the play off dream alive. I remember telling my mate (and anyone who would listen) that if we beat Wolves we would make the play offs, thought the internet was playing tricks on me when it came up as 6-0
Yes, they gave us a bit of a hiding at times and we thumped them 6-0; seeing was believing. Wolves fans applauded their team off a the end, as they had played that well.
FLT, you were right..! You may have been wrong about Saganowski, but you were right about Rasiak. Played 4 times for Saints in the Liebherr era. Haven't found out where yet but I have amended the list, so now your Saints supporting world is back in balance. EDIT: OK, here's his Liebherr list of appearances in August 2009: [H] 2-0 Northampton CC [A] 1-3 Huddersfield L1 [A] 0-1 Swindon L1 [H] 1-1 Brentford L1 He then went to Reading.
Could anyone remember our starting 11 for our first game in league one? Seems like the start of that season is lost to me. Where we brought before the start of the season or after? Oh god how can i not remember this!
