Or players like Alfie, Fletcher, Johnson and Rose? Oops I've kinda gone and spoiled everyones joke here by listing players that we all liked at the time MoN signed them (there were even mass ****ing sessions when we signed AJ for instance) and Rose was our outstanding outfield player of the season. MoN has left us better players than Bruce did and even Graham, who has been a huge failure, is attracting interest from several clubs if we sold and would we would most likely get our money back. How much would we get for Wickham after blowing £8m on him 2.5 years ago? **** all is the answer. MoN failed last season for sure but its pathetic to suggest he didn't buy some good players in the time he was here (the 5 mins he was allotted anyway). I wonder how long the PDC love in will last if all these relatively unknown foreign lads turn out to be flops? September? Christmas?
Always wondered Why MoN got so much stick regarding signings, DG aside. We've got a backbone of british players, should be able to sign as many overseas players as we want now without being forced to leave spaces in the squad. Think the joke is MoN's predictability of signing domestic players more than who he's signed. I took the piss and went for retired players. I'm Happy with MoN's signings, think they're going to do well. DG aside.
twenty two million pounds for fletcher and johnson combined , johnson has been close to a flop and has been very poor imo. then we have danny graham ,kader mangane utter rubbish.
dont know why rose is mentioned, its like borowing a car and telling every one its yours . For 22 million on two players alone, i would not be too pleased 4th from bottom
First two yeah fair do. SAF signed David Bellion and Karel Poborský mate. Every manager on the planet makes the wrong signings. People knock Cuellar but he's been our 2nd best CB at the club last season (Not counting Wes for obvious reasons)and Bruce signed titus for christ sake. Cuellar gets too much ****. Usually very solid when playing with JoS and a good professional. Yes we're moving on from that kind of player and he won't fit the new style but last year's goal difference shows he had a pretty decent season and should in no way put in a flop category. MoN had a budget and brought him in, It's not like MoN had a 150m to replace a full team with world class players.
Maybe harsh on Cuellar but he's just as much a liability as Bramble was imo and his distribution is just as bad. I think Mon was extremely average in the market. Yes fletcher was a success but you expect him to be for 12m, AJ has been a flop but mon can't be blamed for that. DG for 5m and Laudrup was laughing. Danny Rose was a gamble that payed off, no-one on here predicted he would turn out to be so superb for us. N'Diaye looks like a good solid player so can't complain there. I like mon and wanted him to succeed as much as some and actually think he may have kept us up just barely. But in hindsight I think his transfer market dealings were pretty poor.
Fletcher was our top goalscorer and missed a dozen games; everyone and I mean everyone was ****ing themselves daft when we signed AJ and the fact he himself admits he has been poor isn't MoN's fault. Alfie could become a key player in his second season or could fail but he was decent gamble for the money we paid. O'Neill bought some quality players who PDC can build on and he also brought in some gambles (for **** all it must be stated other than wages) like Mangane. Graham was a decent shout for £4m and there is already interest from 2 or 3 clubs willing to buy him from us so we wont lose out there either. I don't get the Cuellar is ****e line either? For a free signing he has been excellent value (10 times the footballer and defender that Bramble is) and on occasions he has been our best defender in games too? In the derby he was awesome until his injury. Sure he makes mistakes but then again so does EVERY single defender in world football. The difference is the very best also have the very best other players around them to help ease the burden. As for the quip why mention Rose as he was jut borrowed? What a very silly and may I add thick statement to make. Rose was plucked from the Spurs reserves for bugger all and had an amazing season. The fact remains he would have been MoN's number one target had he stayed and the fact Rose has now had a full season to get used to us and us to him would have put us in the driving seat should Spurs decide to sell. There is more to MoN's buying than some of the ignorant rants on here justify. He shipped out some ****e and started to buy much better but had a very limited time to put into place his game plans and was hamstrung by some of Bruce's decisions. I accept that Martin had failed to get to grips with the club and he had to go but I wont accept his transfers were some kind of utter disaster because it simply isnt true at all.
