Hmm - yeah the team was awful at that time. Maybe his giving it away stays in my mind so much cos he'd have won the ball then would give it straight away. Personally I always thought the fondness the fans felt for him had more to do with his fist-shaking at the crowd rather than any football he played.
Yeah, he was an early Zokora really. We all loved a good dance with Didier at the end of a long match. Malbranque would be my contraversial shout. A lot of fans really liked him but I thought he was poor, plus I never forgave him for that goal line "clearance" against Sevilla.
And much as I hate the idea of being an apologist for Pav (my least favourite player in the Spurs squad right now, possibly) the love the fans have for him IS based on what he's done on the pitch. Only trouble is that those ten to twenty spectacular and winning goals (?) are all he's ever done. And over the course of three and a half years that is very, very little really.
When we signed Pav, I was disappointed it wasn't his better scoring mate Pogrebynak, much the same as Rebrov, who was Shevchenko's inferior mate at the time...why do we always buy the bridesmaid!
