Craig Lawford - won pre-season of the year in 1993 - but quickly turned to ****e under our Tel. Dave Bamber - had a 1 in 3 before coming to us for decent cash and the goals drying up. Shame. If we've have not dropped down that year (think only two went down too) the debacle of the 90s may have never happened.
Can't remember the timeline exactly, but one was deffo before we played Scunny. He triumphantly said we were expecting 10-12k for that game - sounded amazing after the low crowds of the 80s/90s I'd experienced.
I liked for the additional info supplied - not the content!! Bobby Doyle - not to be confused with Steve Doyle who also played midfield later on in the 80's, and he happened to score one of the greatest City goals I've seen which was at Elland Road!! Unfortunately we lost 4-3 and Vinny Jones scored the goal of his career.
Cloughie signed Nigel, but then apparently gave him a much harder time as a result, so it can work both ways.
It shows what tricks memory can play, I would have sworn that the 'friendly' was at BP, even though I was at the match, hey ho. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Spent longer warming up than actually spending time on the pitch - mind you that was probably a blessing
Paul Hunter - banging goals in for fun in Scotland and I naively thought he would do the same down here - but no he was just another useless Scottish striker. He also qualified for one of the daftest injuries when he tripped over his dog and broke a toe or something.
Alfie Jones is arguably top 10 in his position in the division so he epitomises this bracket. Coyle has been top 5 in the division too.
Who was the defender (we got from Lincoln?) who broke his toes by dropping a box of tiles on them? - 80's...
Andy Holt from Oldham Dropped some tiles on his toes and brok'em He couldn't play for a while All because of a tile That should have been stuck in his bath'rem Coat, get, out.
Danny Webb Dave’s son , striker LOL he had ten to two feet and it took him a minute to sort em out to shoot - I think he scored one goal in a low level cup game - he was crap and he stayed that way !!
He was surprisingly good as a left back/winger on Fifa football manager 2002 or whatever it was called back then... Back in the days before health and safety clocked on that mid level engineers were playing football manager on their work computers, rather than monitoring pipe drilling...
the best examples of high expectations that turned to **** have have got to be Cameron Stewart and Peter Halmosi
He was a better player than most in the team , in the Orient play off I’m not sure if he got injured and we lost or he was out and we were crap ? Someone will know .
