Tufan. Thought he'd be a dud due to his fitness issues and alleged laziness. Credit to him for getting and staying fit and credit to Rosenior as well for making him into a pressing attacking midfielder. He's always had quality as you can see with his shooting and passing ability.
When we sold Robertson to L'pool a L'pool supporter I knew, he was a scouser, lived there and came to Hull as a delivery driver to my shop, said 'Nah, seen him play for yous, he'll never make the first team, just be a reserve'. Arrogant Bastard. Also used to do business at a warehouse in Manchester and when Man City appointed Brian Horton I was singing his praises and every one of the Man City fans in there ( and it was full of them) said he cannot be any good because he managed Hull. Again, arrogant cheeky bastards. The only two Hull City players we have signed and I have been disappointed with are Ian Hesford and Henrickson ? As for Jose Altidore. I have an American cousin who visited England when he played for us. My cousin was a City fan and he managed to fit one game in whilst he was here, his first and only City game v Blackburn in the Prem, 0-0. It pissed it down all day. So for compense I took him down to the Millhouse Woods Lane training ground. Every player got in their huge cars and whizzed past him at the gates whilst he was stood there with his autograph book, except one, Jose Altidore. When he saw the Columbus Crew badge on his coat and heard his American accent, he stopped the car, spoke at length to him, then went back to the training ground and came back with a carrier bag full of City stuff for him. He also asked if he would be at Arsenal the following week and he could come as his guest, he even offered him money for the train fare. Unfortunatley my cousin was flying back home the same day and couldn't make it. I personally thought there was a player in there but he never really got a chance, and I hope Ohio isn't going to go down the same career path.
Guilty as charged. I slated Delaney the day he left the pitch in tears. I was very wrong and a bit of a **** tbh. Macca came good and Alex would run through a brick wall for the team, just remember the Cup Final.
They actually looked excellent together in the win against Bolton, but we barely got to see them play together after that, usually Altidore went off when Ghilas came on.
Billy Whitehurst. . . . Harry Maguire Jarrod Bowen As much as I liked them both, I didn't think either of them had enough pace to make it in the PL. How wrong was I. They've both absolutely smashed it.
The current player who's clearly stepped up a level (or several levels) is Lewie, he looks a completely different player now.
The autograph thing reminds me of a Leeds fan I worked with. He was from Leeds, moved over here for work. Decided his young lad was old enough to go to his first game. Got off to a good start as they were behind the dugout and Paul Robinson who was on the bench asked him if he wanted to join him. Must have been in heaven until a steward saw him and made him to back to his seat. After the game on the car park they saw Lucas Radebe, his lad’s favourite player, signing autographs. It was chucking it down with rain and the queue was long and his dad thought we will never get his autograph. Radebe kept signing autographs and more joined the queue behind them. Finally they got there. He thanked him and said he was surprised he had stuck there in the rain all that time. He said these people were why he was no longer in Soweto and why he had been able to move his family out of there to a decent area. Things like that and the fact he turned down moves to Man Utd and AC Milan show why he became a cult figure to Leeds fans. The Kaiser Chiefs took their name because he used to play for them. Even higher praise was when Nelson Mandela when visiting Leeds said of him that he was his hero.
Coyle without a doubt. Slater on his way an all ironing out the lesser parts of his game it seems. Pelkas in terms of the other way, high expectations and the bloke was pony.
Are u Jamie Carragher? Didn't he question why Lpool would buy a buyer 'like him' ? ...Just goes to show you how little he knows about football. I recall being told by someone who followed Dundee Utd, that we had just got a lad who would be a fans favourite very quickly. He was spot on...Great player. Peter Halmosi. Came with a good reputation, but, in truth, never really got a chance at City. Who was that midfield player we got from Portsmouth in the mid 1980's? Everyone thought he'd be crap, but turned out to be decent. Played for a season or two, then might have retired due to injury. Can't recall his name.
Great shout. What a false dawn that was. Remember (like yesterday) long suffering die hard mates saying "things like this just don't happen to us" (Lloyd as a wealthy ambitious owner, Hately as player manager, etc(. We really thought this is it!! It nearly was but not in the way expected!
No you're not, you have far more class than that spitting bastard, and that's in no way denigrating your class.
He certainly had a very big opinion of himself. I was in the Swan pub in Swanland one evening, and he was there spouting to his collected audience how great he was. It was really quite nauseating.
