Aldershot Town have signed U21 goalkeeper Andrew Dawber on a one-month loan.

"The 20 year-old will provide competition for Dan Thomas whilst Phil Smith recovers from the groin strain suffered in Saturday’s match against Grimsby Town.

Born in Wigan, Dawber began his career with Accrington Stanley but, despite impressing on his first-team debut aged just 17, found opportunities limited. He enjoyed loan spells at Marine and Clitheroe and trained with both Liverpool and Manchester United during his time at the Crown Ground.

Having left Stanley in April, Dawber signed a one-year contract with Fulham in July 2015"

    Nando does over the Bees

    and Mitrog strikes again -

"Fernando Amorebieta started in the heart of defence as Middlesbrough saw off the challenge of Brentford at the Riverside Stadium on Tuesday evening with a 3-1 win. Fellow South American summer signing Christian Stuani poked home in the first half to put Boro ahead, but the Bees responded through Lasse Vibe four minutes into the second period. Stuani restored his team’s advantage when he connected with Albert Adomah’s cross on 69 minutes, before the winger got his own name on the scoresheet to wrap things up.

The victory moves the Teesiders up to second in the Sky Bet Championship.

Over in Portugal, Kostas Mitroglou was on target as Benfica got their UEFA Champions League campaign off to the perfect start with a 2-0 win over Astana. The Kazakhstani outfit actually went close to making the breakthrough moments after the restart when Aleksei Schetkin poked against the post. But it was the hosts who struck first through Nicolas Gaitan’s fine run and shot, before Mitroglou tapped home Eliseu’s low cross to secure the points in Group C."

Sheffield United are looking to move forward a deal to sign Dan Burn on a 93-day emergency loan, according to the Yorkshire Post.

They had another home defeat last night, this time to Colchester United who ran out 3-2 winners following Billy Sharp’s late penalty miss. After the game, Nigel Adkins spoke to the press and confirmed that he is looking into the emergency loan market to strengthen his side.

Magnus Norman has been recalled. Magnus, who signed a new deal at the beginning of this month, played the first two games of the season for United, but has not featured since, because of injury and has now returned to Motspur Park.

There seems to be an injury curse on our keepers when they go on loan, and even when they don't!

Only one winner this weekend –

”Stephen Arthurworrey helped Yeovil Town keep a clean sheet as they won 1-0 away at Liam Donnelly’s Crawley Town in Sky Bet League Two. The pair played the full 90 as Harry Cornick clinched the three points for the Glovers with a brilliant long range effort in the first half.

Jesse Joronen played the full game for Stevenage as they went down to a 3-2 defeat away at Barnet. Fraser Franks had put the visitors ahead but Bondz N’Gala headed the Bees level just after the break. Teddy Sheringham’s side went back in front just moments later when Tom Hitchcock headed home in similar fashion to their first goal. Aaron McLean got the home side level with his first goal for Martin Allen’s men before substitute Michael Gash won it for the home side late on.

A division above, Larnell Cole played the entire game as his Shrewsbury Town side fell to a 1-0 defeat to Crewe Alexandra. Adam King scored within the opening couple of minutes as the visitors recorded their first win of the season.

Another goalkeeper who was on the wrong side of a 3-2 defeat was Maarten Stekelenburg as his Southampton side lost at home to Manchester United in the Barclays Premier League. Graziano Pelle had put the Saints 1-0 up before an Anthony Martial double gave the Red Devils a 2-1 lead which Juan Mata extended with 20 minutes to go. Pelle grabbed his second of the game late on to give the Saints hope of a point but they fell just short.

Kostas Mitroglou played the full 90 for Benfica as they went down to a 1-0 defeat away at Porto, Andre Andre notching got the winner four minutes from time.”

A mini run out for a couple of the lads but Nando's in there again -

"Fernando Amorebieta saw 90 minutes as Middlesbrough eased into the Fourth Round of the Capital One Cup with a 3-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday evening. Albert Adomah scored either side of a Diego Fabbrini effort as Boro comfortably saw off the challenge of Kenny Jackett’s men at the Riverside Stadium.

In Sky Bet League Two, Liam Donnelly came on for the final 10 minutes of Crawley Town’s 4-1 defeat at Notts County. The game was already over by that point, as although the visitors went ahead through Rhys Murphy, a brace each for Liam Noble and Mike Edwards earned County the points and condemned the Red Devils to the relegation places.

In the Scottish League Cup, Adam Taggart came on in the 73rd minute of Dundee United’s 3-1 extra-time win over Dunfermline at Tannadice. Michael Paton’s early strike had been cancelled out by Callum Morris to ensure the tie went to an additional 30 minutes, within which Scott Fraser and Blair Spittal netted to send United into the last-eight."

Busy weekend for the lads out on loan, especially rosc's favourite Jesse Joronen who came out tops -

"Fernando Amorebieta played 90 minutes and kept a clean sheet as Middlesbrough saw off Leeds United 3-0 at the Riverside Stadium on Sunday. David Nugent got Boro off to a great start with a close range finish three minutes in, before Giuseppe Bellusci’s diving header into his own net doubled the advantage for the home side. Substitute Diego Fabbrini then made sure of the victory late on to move Boro to within a point of Sky Bet Championship leaders Brighton & Hove Albion.

The day before,Maarten Stekelenburg was in goal for Southampton as they beat Swansea City 3-1 at St Mary’s in the Barclays Premier League. Virgil van Dijk headed his side in front early on, and second half goals from Dusan Tadic and Sadio Mane put Saints in control of proceedings, although Gylfi Sigurdsson did pull one back from the penalty spot with seven minutes remaining. The win moved Southampton up into the top half of the table.

In League One,Larnell Cole claimed two assists as Shrewsbury Town beat Blackpool 2-0 at home. He set up Jean-Louis Akpa-Akpro on 73 minutes for the opener, before teeing up the striker once again shortly after to make sure of the points and help the Shrews move up to 16th in the standings.

A division below,Stephen Arthurworrey couldn’t prevent Yeovil Town from slipping to a 2-1 defeat at home to Hartlepool United. Scott Fenwick put the visitors in front, only for Ryan Bird to provide an immediate response in the first half. But Pool left with the points courtesy of a late Brad Walker strike as the Glovers dropped to 21st.

One place above them is Stevenage, for whom Jesse Joronen excelled in their 1-0 defeat at Cambridge United. The on-loan Fulham goalkeeper had made a number of saves to have seemingly earned his side a point, but he was finally beaten in the seventh minute of stoppage time when Harrison Dunk headed in from close range.

Finally in the division,Liam Donnelly’s Crawley Town suffered a 3-0 loss to Accrington Stanley at the Checkatrade.com Stadium. A disastrous couple of minutes at the end of the first half proved to be the Reds’ downfall. Luke Rooney was sent off for fouling Josh Windass in the penalty area, with the midfielder then converting the subsequent spot-kick, before Matty Crooks added a second in stoppage time. Billy Kee then wrapped things up in the 89th minute, as Crawley remain in the League Two relegation places.

In Scotland, Adam Taggart played 58 minutes as Dundee United lost 2-1 at 10-man St Johnstone. Home goalkeeper Allan Mannus was dismissed midway through the first half for barging into Billy Mckay in the area, with the United man firing the resultant penalty beyond replacement stopper Zander Clark. But the hosts turned the game around and took the spoils through second half efforts from Graham Cummins and Simon Lappin.

In Portugal, Kostas Mitroglou played just over an hour of Benfica’s 3-0 home win over Pacos Ferreira. A Jonas brace either side of Goncalo Guedes’ strike earned them the victory.

In Ligue 2 in France, Ange-Freddy Plumain was substituted after 65 minutes of Red Star’s 1-0 win over Brest – Remi Fournier was on target moments later with the winner."

Oh no, Nando gave away a penalty ! Otherwise the rest of the weekend went quite well for Stekers but not for many of the others ..

”Stephen Arthurworrey helped Yeovil Town to an impressive 0-0 draw at high-flying Portsmouth in Sky Bet League Two on Saturday. Despite controlling possession, the hosts managed just two shots on target as Arthurworrey and company stood firm. The point leaves the Glovers in 22nd spot.

In the same division, Jesse Joronen and Stevenage went down to a late 1-0 home defeat to Carlisle United. Joronen made a good stop from Alex McQueen, before the hosts missed a penalty when Mark Gillespie saved Brett Williams' effort. Joronen them fumbled Danny Grainger’s cross in the 82nd minute and Tom Miller capitalised to snatch the win for the visitors. Stevenage, who sit in 20th place, are now without a win in their last six games and have lost their last four matches.

Crawley Town and Liam Donnelly also went down to a late League Two defeat in a 2-1 loss at Plymouth Argyle as the Pilgrims went top. Reuben Reid put Plymouth into a first-half lead but Crawley thought they had earned a point after substitute Roarie Deacon bundled in four minutes from time. However, midfielder Hiram Boateng swooped on a rebound after Freddie Woodman failed to hold Carey’s thundering 25-yard free-kick with a minute left. Crawley lie in 21st place.

In League One , Larnell Cole played the full 90 minutes as Shrewsbury Town were beaten 3-0 at Coventry City. Adam Armstong got the first, before Marc-Antoine Fortuné notched a second from the spot on the stroke of half-time after being brought down by Nat Knight-Percival. Armstrong added his second midway through the second half. Shrewsbury are being kept out of the relegation zone only on goal difference.

In the Barclays Premier League, Maarten Stekelenburg and Southampton ensured Chelsea's terrible start to the season continued with a 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge. Stekelenburg was beaten in the 10th minute through Willian's brilliant free-kick, but former Whites midfielder Steven Davis drove in an equaliser before Sadio Mane put Saints ahead. Graziano Pelle's angled finish sealed victory for Southampton, who climb to ninth in the table.

In the Championship, Fernando Amorebieta gave away a penalty as Middlesbrough’s five game winning streak came to an end with a 2-0 loss at Reading. Danny Williams put Reading in front after just 15 seconds and Nick Blackman added the second late on after being fouled in the box by Amorebieta, who was booked.

Finally, in France’s Ligue 2, Ange-Freddy Plumain was an 81st-minute substitute as Red Star drew 1-1 away to Nimes. Julian Jeanvier gave the visitors the lead in the 65th minute but Nimes were level soon after through Steve Mounie. Red Star are 10th in the table."

Cup time last night (Johnstone's Paint Trophy - second round). Only one of ours goes through, however.

"Stephen Arthurworrey helped Yeovil Town to a clean sheet at Huish Park as they held Coventry City to a 0-0 draw, before the Glovers progressed 4-3 in a penalty shootout.

Larnell Cole was on the losing side as Shrewsbury Town fell 2-1 at Fleetwood Town. The visitors went ahead through Junior Brown's 25th-minute effort before Ashley Hunter's 69th-minute goal cancelled out their lead. Bobby Grant's 90th-minute effort secured the Cod Army's place in the next round and eliminated the Shrews.

Liam Donnelly and Crawley Town also crashed out, after suffering a 3-0 home defeat against Southend United. Myles Weston and Joe Piggot put the Shrimpers ahead at half-time, when Donnelly was replaced by Lewis Young. With the Reds chasing the game, Piggot scored his second late on to clinch the win."

And a good weekend for them plugging it away at home during the ‘International period’ –

Larnell Cole claimed two assists as Shrewsbury Town fought back to beat Colchester United 4-2 at New Meadow on Saturday. The Essex side had stormed into a two-goal lead before half-time courtesy of a Mark Ellis own goal and Tom Eastman's backheel, but Tyrone Barnett headed in Cole’s cross less than a minute after the restart to half the deficit. Barnett then grabbed his second just before the hour mark to level matters, before Cole played in Sullay Kaikai to make it 3-2 in the 72nd minute. Fellow loanee Kaikai then secured his brace with nine minutes remaining to cap an excellent second half display from Town, and move them up to 14th in Sky Bet League One in the process.

In League Two,Stephen Arthurworrey helped Yeovil Town complete a comeback of their own as they recovered from going two goals behind at home to Dagenham & Redbridge to take a point. Kane Ferdinand and Frankie Raymond were on target before the break for the visitors, but an improved display after the restart led to Ryan Bird and Jakub Sokolik finding the net to earn the Glovers a point, which saw them leapfrog Stevenage into 21st.”

Cottager, its nice to read your reports about our players out on loan, but quite honestly
I cannot see the majority of the aforementioned ultimately holding regular first team spots
at Fulham, and if we have a managerial change there possibly could be a mass clear out.

We know all about Jesse Joronen's claim to fame. Here's how the rest of the lads got on:

"Stephen Arthurworrey’s Yeovil Town remain just a point outside the relegation zone after a 2-0 defeat at Notts County.
The central defender played the full 90 as two goals in six second half minutes from Stanley Aborah and Izale McLeod condemned the Glovers to a fifth game without victory.

In League One, Larnell Cole featured for 69 minutes of Shrewsbury Town’s 2-1 defeat at Scunthorpe United. The Shrews had taken the lead after quarter of an hour through Sulley Kaikai, but Scott Laird equalised after the restart before Paddy Madden’s penalty on 74 earned the hosts all three points as Town dropped down to 18th.

In the Scottish Premiership on Sunday, Adam Taggart came on at half-time but was unable to prevent Dundee United from falling to a 1-0 defeat by Hearts at Tannadice. Juanma’s early penalty proved the difference between the two sides, while United were later reduced to 10 men when Blair Spittal was shown a second yellow card in stoppage time.

On Friday In Ligue 2, Ange-Freddy Plumain came on for the final 20 minutes of Red Star’s 1-0 home defeat by Nancy. Julien Cetout was on target for the visitors in the first half, leaving Red Star sitting 13th in the standings."

Maartin Stelekenburg was out of the Southamton team, injured. No idea what Mitroglou was up to.

Another mixed weekend for the boys on loan. And ex-team mate Bryan getting one over Mitrog.

"Larnell Cole played 72 minutes of Shrewsbury Town’s 2-0 home win over Bury in Sky Bet League One on Saturday afternoon. The hosts took the lead just before the half hour mark when Sulley Kaikai, another loanee, fired in from the edge of the box, before Abu Ogogo secured the three points a minute after Cole was replaced by James Collins. The win saw the Shrews move up to 16th in the standings.

In the division below, Jesse Joronen was in goal as Stevenage were beaten 2-1 at Northampton Town. Steve Schumacher’s goal midway through the first half had put Teddy Sheringham’s side in front, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Alfie Potter struck in the second half to complete the turnaround and keep Stevenage in 20th spot.

In the Championship, Fernando Amorebieta played the entirety of Middlesbrough’s 3-1 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux. Dave Edwards had put Wolves in front in the first half, but late efforts from Diego Fabbrini, Grant Leadbitter and Stewart Downing earned Boro a first win in four and moved them up to fourth in the table.

In the Barclays Premier League, Maarten Stekelenburg helped Southampton to a creditable 1-1 draw against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
Christian Benteke came off the bench to head the hosts in front on 77 minutes, but Sadio Mane – who was later sent off – bundled home an equaliser in the closing stages of normal time to ensure the Saints stay one place above their opponents in eighth.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Kostas Mitrogloucame on for the final 13 minutes of Benfica’s 3-0 home defeat by rivals Sporting. The damage was all done in the opening 36 minutes, with Teofilo Antonio Gutierrez, Islam Slimani and former Fulham playmaker Bryan Ruiz all on target, leaving Benfica sititng eighth in the Primeira Liga.

In the Scottish Premiership, Adam Taggart entered the action as a 55th-minute substitute against Celtic, but Dundee United were already four goals behind at that point. Leigh Griffiths, Dedryk Boyata and a Kris Commons penalty had put the Hoops three up before half-time, and Commons found the net again shortly after the restart. An Aaron Kuhl own goal compounded United’s misery late on, as they remain rooted to the bottom of the table."

Not good. Stephen Arthurworrey has been forced to cut short his season-long loan deal to Yeovil through injury.

He had to come off during the 1-0 defeat by Mansfield last week with a knee injury. Yeovil manager Paul Sturrock said on their Club website "He went back to Fulham and had an X-ray and there is knee damage of some sort. They have explained that he is going to need an operation and that obviously puts him out of contention here. It's a massive blow."

Cup joy and a jolly good weekend all round for the lads, except poor old Nando. Wee concern about rosc’s Jesse Joronen getting another injury but none at all about his side beating (balnkety blank) Gillingham.

Jesse Joronen helped Stevenage to a 3-0 FA Cup victory over Gillingham on Saturday, although the goalkeeper had to leave the action on 78 minutes after picking up a knock. Teddy Sheringham’s men outplayed their opponents – who currently sit 41 places above them in the Football League ladder – throughout the encounter, and went into half-time two goals up courtesy of Steven Schumacher’s pearler from distance and Chris Whelpdale’s header. Armand Gnanduillet then finished off a counter attack in stoppage time at the end of the game to confirm Stevenage’s presence in the draw for Round Two.

Elsewhere in the competition, Larnell Cole helped Shrewsbury Town edge beyond National League North side Gainsborough Trinity by a solitary goal. The underdogs went close to breaking the deadlock when Marc Newsham hit the post, but the Shrews were the ones who progressed thanks to James Collins’ 20-yard strike. Cole played 74 minutes of the tie before making way for Liam McAlinden.

In the Barclays Premier League, Maarten Stekelenburg’s clean sheet helped Southampton claim a 1-0 win at Sunderland. Dusan Tadic’s 69th minute penalty proved the difference between the sides after Yann M’Vila had felled Ryan Bertrand in the area. The result kept Saints sitting seventh in the standings.

Fernando Amorebieta played 90 minutes but couldn’t prevent Middlesbrough from slipping to a 3-0 defeat at promotion rivals Hull City. Mohamed Diame gave the hosts the lead at the end of the first half, an advantage which was doubled midway through the second period when Sam Clucas deflected in David Meyler’s shot. Tom Huddlestone rounded things off in style late on to keep Hull City top of the Sky Bet Championship, while Boro remain in fourth.

Dundee United remain bottom of the SPL after suffering a 2-0 loss away to Aberdeen, with Adam Taggart playing the opening 65 minutes. Adam Rooney headed in the Dons’ first goal seven minutes after the restart, and the victory was confirmed when Jonny Hayes netted with little more than quarter of an hour remaining.

In Portugal, Kostas Mitroglou returned to action for Benfica as a 55th minute substitute in their 2-0 home win over Boavista. Goncalo Guedes had put Benfica in front with 39 minutes played and Mehdi Carcela-Gonzalez made sure of the three points late on, before Boavista’s Idris was sent off in stoppage time after receiving a second yellow card.

Ange-Freddy Plumain’s Red Star claimed a 1-0 win at Paris FC in Ligue 2, with the forward seeing 68 minutes of action. The visitors hit the winner with just a few minutes remaining through Anatole Ngamukol and moved up to fifth in the process.”
