Corey Gameiro is the hero of the hour down under but all in all not a good weekend for our lads out on loan. Here is a link to the full round up posted by the Club - http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2013/february/25/loan-round-up
Richard Peniket has also returned to Motspur Park aftr his month's loan to Telford United. If this article is anything to go by, he did so rather informally - http://www.shropshirestar.com/sport/afc-telford-united/2013/02/26/fulham-loanee-richard-peniket-leaves-afc-telford/
The midweek games didn't see any more success than last weekend for our lads : In the Hyundai A-League, Corey Gameiroâs Wellington Phoenix went down to Newcastle Jets 2-1. Adam Taggart had given the Jets the lead on 18 minutes and former Sunderland and Leeds United striker Michael Bridges extended the advantage before half-time. Phoenix fought back, though, with Gameiro playing a key role in their goal when he intercepted a poor back pass to find Louis Fenton. His effort was saved but it fell to Jeremy Brockie to tuck away the rebound, although it turned out to be little more than a consolation for the New Zealand side. Yeovil Townâs nine-match unbeaten run in the npower League One came to an end as goals from Billy Clifford and Freddie Sears gave Colchester United a 2-0 victory at the Community Stadium. please log in to view this image Dan Burn came close to reducing the deficit with the score at 2-0, but saw his header well kept out by Uâs keeper Sam Walker as the Glovers remain in the Play-Off places despite the defeat. James Musa played 74 minutes as Hereford United secured a 3-2 win over Stockport County at Edgeley Park in the Blue Square Bet Premier. Adnan Cirak had given the home side the lead, only for the Bulls to storm back through Luke Graham and Ryan Bowman strikes. James Tunnicliffe equalised for Stockport but a late Josh OâKeefe header ensured his side would return to Hereford with maximum points. Marcello Trotta and Ryan Williams were unused substitutes for Brentford and Gillingham respectively as the Bees secured a 2-1 win over Crawley Town, and the Gills went down to Oxford United by a solitary goal
Briggs had a chance last month in the first team and didn't impress. Much as I want him to stay, I wouldn't be surprised if he leaves next season.
Could Briggs be the next Bale ? He's good going forward but his defending is poor. Might do him some good if he can get a run of games with Watford, but his last few loans spells have been poor.
Can see him being sold/released at the end of the season. With Riise and Richardson at left back we have enough options, it's always nice when an academy prospect makes it into the first team but I don't feel it's going to be Briggs. I'd also like to throw in my doubts over Frei, whose injury really seems to have set him back.
Hi Fulham fans, Watford fan here, wondering if any of you can give me some more information on Briggs. I saw him play for England u-21s once, and he was very good but admittedly that was against Azerbaijan and so he wasn't really test defensively. What sort of player is he? Would he fit in well with our passing football? Zola has said that he's signing to be a left centre back rather than the left wing back on our 3-5-2 formation, what position do you think would suit him better? Thanks, Ryan
Tricky one as he hasn't really had that many opportunities here. He's decent when it comes to attacking, very fast but prone to the odd positional error, allowing people to cut in from the wing etc. He had a loan spell with Bristol City recently so you might have more luck there.
I honestly don't think Briggs is a left back. However he is young and quick, which leads to the misconception of a versatile player - so many young centre backs end up deployed as reserve full backs. Briggs was a centre back coming through the ranks, I believe. It's hard to judge Briggs because of his time deployed as a left back. Maybe he will rediscover his positional sense in the middle, because I get the impression he doesn't quite know what to do out on the left. He gets forward because he is told to, but then can't get back in position. He is quick, which can cover some lapses. In essence he's similar to Smalling, but has a few wasted years as a full back to recover from.
Alex Kacaniklic is in line to go to Burnley on loan. "BURNLEY are close to agreeing a loan move for Fulhamâs Alexander Kacaniklic. The midfielder would be Sean Dycheâs first signing since taking charge of the Clarets in late October, and would be eligible to go into the squad for tomorrowâs game at Charlton Athletic if the deal is completed in time, as expected. Kacaniklic played under Dyche at Watford last season, and was a key figure in turning their season around before being recalled to Fulham. The Sweden international scored in a 3-2 win against Burnley at Vicarage Road last March, which began an unbeaten run of seven games for the Hornets. With midfielders Dean Marney and Chris McCann doubtful, after both limped out of Tuesdayâs home defeat to Huddersfield Town, Kacaniklic could go straight into the Burnley team at The Valley tomorrow." Bit surprised at this one. He is on the bench for us most games, hardly a million miles away from the team. He will tear up the Championship, again.
That's strange. He has tailed off of late, and with Urby coming in perhaps Mart wants him to get his form/confidence back elsewhere. Is it likely to be for the rest of the season?
Ironic that Watford, the better club, get Briggs the lesser player and Burnley the lesser club, get Kacaniklic, the better player. I would imagine the majority of sides in the Championship would be interested in taking Kaca on loan.
I'd love Kacaniklic again, great player, but we don't play with proper wingers currently, so he wouldn't fit in with us.
Richard Peniket has gone straight back out on loan. This time to Farnborough. Blue Square Bet South club Farnborough have signed young Fulham striker Richard Peniket on a monthâs youth loan. Peniket has just returned from a similar arrangement at Conference Premier side AFC Telford United. Despite interest from Manchester United and Liverpool, Fulham secured the signing of the 6â3â Wales under-21 international striker. A player with a good goalscoring record, time on loan last season with League Two club Hereford United added valuable experience to his game. Boro boss Spencer Day said: âYet again we have to thank the generosity of Fulham in allowing us to bring in one of their valued youngsters. At 6â3â Richard will give us a different perspective up front, and adds options to our armoury. He can play up top, or just behind and I am sure he will prove to be an asset to us during this vital period of the season.â Source: http://www.footballconference.co.uk/news/details.php?news_id=9174
And scores in his debut "Farnborough unveiled their latest signing Richard Peniket; the 6ft 3 Wales under 21 player has joined âBoro from Premiership club Fulham. âBoro went into todayâs game against relegation-threatened AFC Hornchurch looking to get back to winning ways but were guilty of under performing, it what was an uneventful first 45 minutes. Both teams cancelled out any threat on goal in a very even game, Matt Ball and Steve Laidler battled to find a footing in the middle of the park but the no nonsense style of play by Hornchurch denied any chance of much football to be played. Half time saw the introduction of Dave Tarpey and new boy Richard Peniket in an attempt to find a way to take control but it was Hornchurch that opened the scoring on the 69th minute when Tuohy capitalised on a defensive mix up and firmly planted his effort past Ross Worner. Peniket went close to scoring on 71 minutes but spurned a good opportunity when he turned six yards out and narrowly fired past the left post. Peniket wasnât going to be denied a second time the lively striker connected to a Daniel Bennett corner to stab home the equaliser. Both sides went close to grabbing a winner but on reflection a draw was about the right result." Source: http://www.farnboroughfc.co.uk/2013/03/boro-1-afc-hornchurch-1/
