The continued resurgence of Stede Malbranque

please log in to view this image

"In his second debut for the club he faced off against Valenciennes and rolled back the years with a man-of-the-match performance in the heart of the midfield. In the absence of the perpetually injured Yoann Gourcuff the form of Malbranque has been integral to helping Lyon to second place in Ligue 1; joint on points with free-spending Paris Saint-Germain. This season Malbranque has featured in 20 games and has one of the best pass completion rates in Ligue 1 (81.9%) as well as assisting eight goals.

Such form has seen him rewarded with a one-year contract extension at the start of December and another reward for extending his career will come in February when he returns to White Hart Lane to face Spurs; who he of course represented for two seasons between 2006 and 2008 where he will be sure to receive a warm welcome especially from those that know of his recent trials and tribulations."

Interesting observation about Gourcouff who is being linked to a number of clubs, including our W12 neighbours. Also I hadn't made the connection about the Euro game v Spurs - simplifies which team to cheer on that evening.

Here is a link to the full article about Stede and the eventful last two years that he's had -

It'll be interested to see how Trotta does today against our more illustrious neighbours. I think he'll be pretty isolated though...

As everyone will know, striker Marcello Trotta opened the scoring for Brentford on Sunday as the Bees came close to knocking Chelsea out of the FA Cup with Budweiser at the Fourth Round stage.

The home side began the game strongly at Griffin Park, and so the Italian’s strike three minutes before half-time was well-deserved. Ross Turnbull was unable to hold Harry Forrester’s initial effort and Trotta followed up with a composed first-time finish to give his side a 1-0 advantage

David Stockdale sat out the match as Hull went down 1-0 at home to Barnsley in their FA Cup 4th round tie.

No games either for Marcus Botticelli (Dartford’s match away to Halifax was postponed) or James Mousa (Hereford United’s away game to Gateshead was also postponed).

Dan Burn’s Yeovil Town are at home tomorrow night against the all conquering, FA Cup heroes - MK Dons.

Richard Peniket is going on a month's loan to Telford.

"The Club can confirm that Academy striker Richard Peniket has joined AFC Telford United on a youth loan contract.

The 19-year-old has previously spent time on loan at Hereford United and Kidderminster Harriers and will remain with the Blue Square Premier side for one month.

Peniket could make his debut on Tuesday evening when Telford visit his former side Kidderminster in a league clash."

What's the point of a one month loan? I can't see how it benefits the players development as he won't be used very much.

Totally agree Craving. The only thing I can see in it's favour is it gives other players a chance in our U21 (reserve) side while the loan player still gets games. A variation on the 'rotation system' ?

I suppose another side to it is the incentive to do well and get the loan extended - like has happened to Dan Burn and now James Musa -

"Hereford United have announced that Fulham youngster James Musa will remain with the Blue Square Bet Premier club for a second month. The versatile 20-year-old defender has made three appearances since arriving at Edgar Street on an initial one-month loan deal at the start of this month.

Bulls manager Martin Foyle has been impressed enough with Musa to offer him an extended stay. The youngster, who joined Martin Jol's side in the summer after an eye-catching display for New Zealand against Egypt in the Olympic Games, will be available for another seven league games before heading back to Craven Cottage."

Big match today as Marcello Trotta and Dan Burn go head-to-head.

Meanwhile, in an interview following his goal against Chelsea, Marcello expresses his desire to make the grade at Fulham:

"MARCELLO TROTTA has vowed to avoid the same fate as his fellow Italian hitman Federico Macheda. He said: “I don’t think we can compare our situations, let alone our goals. Federico scored a decider in the race for the title and above all he was playing for his club, while I am on loan at Brentford. I think we will only be able to draw parallels when I’ll be able to score a goal for Fulham in the Premier League."

It appears that Dan Burn is putting in some solid performances for Yeovil,
who have now climbed to 8th.
Managers quote in the clubs news, Dan has certainly helped to strengthen
    our defence since his arrival.

Indeed he did and was named MOTM.

Dan Burn scored Yeovil’s third as they humbled Cup frenzied Brentford 3-0. Marcello Trotta came on as a sub for Brentford immediately after the start of the second half but saw little of the game.

Hull had David Stockdale back in goal and had an impressive 1-0 win away to Millwall.

The rest of our lads didn’t feature at all this weekend.

James Mousa didn’t play in Cheltenham’s 2-1 home win against Torquay.

There was no game either for Marcus Bettinelli as Dartford had an empty day , waiting for their FA Trophy replay against Halifax next Wednesday.

And Richard Peniket was an unused sub as Telford went down 2-1 at home to Cambridge.

Correction: Marcus Bettinelli's Dartford were thumped 5-0 away to Mansfield on Saturday

I believe it is linked to the fact that they are technically "emergency" loans, in order to exploit the FIFA loophole that currently allows loans to take place outset the transfer windows.

Lauri Dalla Valle has gone out on trial/loan/transfer.

FULHAM forward Lauri Dalla Valle is on trial with Molde.

He's training with the Norwegian side, managed by former Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with view to a possible move.

Lauri has made just two substitute appearances for Fulham since his switch from Liverpool in 2010 as part of the deal that took Paul Konchesky to Anfield.

PS Not that it's totally relevant but he'd be going to a different Norwegian club than the one we have a loose 'partnership' agreement with (Tromso) where Josh Pritchard is on loan. I think Molde are higher division - from memory Forren, who we were interested in in the transfer window plays/played for them.

Corey Gameiro has gone back to Oz on loan to Wellington Phoenix until the end of the season.

"The 20-year-old shot to prominence at the under-19 AFC championship, scoring all six of Australia's goals at the tournament to help them qualify for the 2013 FIFA under-20 World Cup. He has never played a senior match for Fulham, but made eight appearances for Dutch club FC Eindhoven on a recent loan spell.

"It is important to establish relationships with clubs around the world and it is exciting that we are now forming one with an English Premier League side," Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert said. "Having players coming this way is good for the future of the club."

Gameiro should be available to make his debut next week against the Brisbane Roar."

Umm ... I don't think we'll see him again (a bit like Danny Hoesen). Real pity because I rated him. Unfortunatley others, initially Trotta now Tankovic and Woodrow seem to above him in the pecking order and I suspect the decision to return 'home' is his choice.

    Saturday 9th February

Not a brilliant day for our lads out on loan -

Playing away from home again, Hull were disappointed to lose 1-0 to Brighton through a late free kick. The low shot from 25 yards was strong enough to beat David Stockdale.

Marcello Trotta was on target for Brentford, but they couldn't hold on to the lead and dropped two points at home to lowly Bury, drawing 2-2.

Dan Burn turned in another solid performance as Yeovil continued their good run with a 1-0 win away to Coventry.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21311334

Marcus Bettinelli conceded a last penalty (and got a booking) as Dartford went down 2-1 away to Lincoln.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21311446

Richard Peniket came on as a late sub but couldn’t help Telford Town going down 1-0 away to Grimsby.

James Musa didn’t feature as Cheltenham went down 1-0 away to Dagenham & Redbridge

Dan Burn has been included in the Football League's Team of the Week for the weekend just gone. This is his second week in a row that he has been given that honour and follows his performance in the away match at Coventry City that saw Yeovil keep their second consecutive clean sheet.
