Schwarzer has literally just come back from injury and I don't think we would get a recall clause on a loan to the end of the season. Maybe Etheridge is better than I think, but if we don't have a keeper coming in I cannot see how this loan is in our best interests.
Schwarzer has played the last couple of games, Etheridge is quite highly-rated and even then we still have Somogyi in reserve. It's no different to when Stockdale went to Hull earlier in the season. I do see where you're coming from though.
This. I feel like the Stecklenberg deal is on the verge of completion, so loaning out Stockdale makes sense.
I completely forgot about Somogyi! Anyways, it is different for the reason I mentioned; I doubt Hull would be keen to sign a long term loan with a recall clause in it. Of course I am speculating there, but I don't think Jol has any intention of playing Etheridge (quite yet) or Somogyi (at all).
It sounds like we do have a recall clause - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21079606 Here's the key sentence: Boss Steve Bruce told BBC Radio Humberside: "It is until the end of the season but of course that could change if anything happens to Mark Schwarzer. Premier League clubs aren't allowed to include recall clauses on loans to other Premier league clubs, but other than that I don't think the season-long thing makes any difference.
Sounds like Hull are more desperate that I thought! If they've agreed a recall clause, then the loan does make sense.
To be fair Stocky's not done too badly. Went on loan, got a few games under his belt, came back, played a few in the PL, now he can go back and resume playing first team football. I think it's a good policy that we only keep him at the club if we know we're going to play him.
Had an e/m from a friend of mine, who is a Brentford supporter,my question being what do you think of Trotta. " Not a lot, he said he does not impress, and seems to be subbed a lot, aparently tiredness. As he puts it, a lot of hustle and bustle, with no end result." Would you like him permenantly,Reply if we had to spend money on him no. And Mr tallent spotter JOL has just given him a 3 year contract.
This might be a daft question but why would a club pay a fee for a player on loan when the parent club could recall him at any time? If Schwarzer got injured today and we recalled Stockdale, they would have paid 200K for nothing?
So, two people disagree about Trotta's merits, and you assume the one who has spent his life in professional football is the one who has got it wrong? I'm not saying Trotta is going to make it with us, but he's done well in the past and convinced a lot of people - including you in the past, ros - that he's got some talent. Your friend might be right, but in the absence of any information about how knowledgeable he actually is, I think I'll trust Jol's judgement ahead of his.
I think that the way these things usually work is that if we recall him, Hull don't have to pay the full fee. Probably. If that wasn't the case then I agree, it would be pretty dumb of Hull.
Captain, re Trotta I have probably seen more of Trotta in competative matches than MJ,( possibly excluding Cottager ) and as anybody who has read my posts over the past years,i have had nothing but admiration for the lad, even to the point of wanting him to be part of our first team squad. But as previously stated the last 18 months we have not seen him fulfill his early potential, if clubs and supporters of lower league clubs do not enthuse, when he is a part of their team, then yes i am critical of our managerial judgement. Some stats NOV DEC JAN ~ Of the 8 possible teams for religation QPR 11 points Reading 15 points Wigan 11 points A V 14 points Southampton 18 points Newcastle 8 points Norwich 19 points Fulham 11 points hardly make interesting reading, our defence is appalling, this was not addressed,in the summer when JOL was aware that Demps and Murphy were going, and the replacement signings were hardly awe inspiring. mediocrity is the best we can hope for with a team that seems to have lost its enthusiasm under the current administration I reiterate what i said in earlier posts, following the results after sat 2nd of Feb we may need a change of direction.
With the notable exception of Reither, who has been our most consistent player this season. I don't know if you could see in your crystal ball the decline of Hughes and Hangeland?
Agree with Bidley here, there wasn't really any need to bring in more defenders. Riise, Hangeland and Hughes were all solid for us last season.
20th January 2013 David Stockdale returned to Hull and helped them to a 1-1 draw away to Peterborough; conceding only to a penalty late in the game. http://sportinglife.aol.co.uk/football/match/report/8411974/peterborough-united-v-hull-city Marcella Trotta played the full 98 minutes (lots of ‘injury’ time in a tetchy match) as Brentford perhaps surprisingly went down 2-1 at home. The result ended Brentford’s unbeaten 15 game run. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20996620 A day off for Dan Burn as Yeovil’s home game against Preston was postponed because of the weather. Marcus Bettinelli and James Mousa will have to wait for another day to face up to each other as the Dartford v Hereford game was also postponed.
To be fair, Ros, one fan of one lower division club is being critical. He was a big hit at Wycombe where he scored 8 goals in 8 games. Trotta can't be doing too badly (3 goals in 9 league and cup games according to wikipedia - not prolific but reasonable) if the Brentford manager (who was a decent striker in his day) chose to extend the loan. I know you've seen a lot of Trotta, but you weren't basing your argument on your observations, but on those of one Brentford fan. Some fans are very knowledgeable about the game; some miss a lot of the subtle things that a player does on the pitch. The fact that there are certain players who constantly divide fans shows that basing things on one random (to the rest of us) fan's view is a lottery. I know you have been frustrated by people who defended AJ over the years, yet others argue that (goalscoring apart) he consistently played well for us. I know Arsenal fans who rate Walcott as the best thing going for them and others who think he's colossally over-rated. I've left Fulham games and heard one group of fans berating Sidwell or Ruiz, then overheard another group saying how well the same player played. Some fans are more perceptive than others and read a game better, some fans are better at judging certain positions (I've always felt I read attacking players better than I read defensive ones, for what that's worth). I'm not casting aspersions about your judgement, merely that of an unknown Brentford fan. If he's a friend of yours, then the chances are he's a miserable, pessimistic old codger with a tendency to see the worst in everything (joke). The professionals involved in Trotta's career, both at Fulham and at Brentford, seem to think that he's got something worth persisting with. I have my doubts about him, but I'm happy to trust their judgement and see how things develop. At worst, if he doesn't finally deliver, a three year contract might mean we get some kind of fee for him in a year or two. I don't think his wages are likely to be recklessly high.
In praise of Trotta - he can be absolutely pants in a game but be in the right position to get a goal or, which is just as likely, to miss the opportunity. I'm guessing here but my instinct tells me that the Brentford supporter's gripe is that, for a big guy, Trotta is too easily knocked off the ball. Maybe a decent run of games with Brentford in a very competitive league will harden him up. As you say Captain, time will tell.
