Does that mean we're going to play the terrible Simon Eastwood in goal ?? He's completely ****e, we'll never keep a clean sheet again I hope McLeod refinds his scoring form and racks up the goals, or we could not pick up points for a while! Anyway, I hope they find some blankets to keep Mikkel Anderssen warm, whulst he's sitting on Reaing's bench ......
Eastwood is one for the future. I'd imagine Guy is looking for another loanee until January. However, I do remember one Stephen Henderson being so nervous he was hopeless on his first couple of games, then he became the preferred player - so don't be too quick writing Eastwood off!
Swindon fans seem sorry to see Benson leave, they have plenty of nice things to say about him. I thought this comment was worth a cut & paste.
This Charlton fan was sorry to see him leave as well. Damned good player that we never made or saw the best of - keep crossing it and he'll keep sticking it in the net - good hold-up player too, gives the midfield time to advance up the field. Don't worry about the age, he's as fit as a butcher's dog. And if you're self-employed, there's even a chance he'll do your books for you... Good luck Pompey.
Thanks T A - he should be playing for us today I can't work out if he's just with us on a one month loan or whether it's for a much longer duration. It seems to be a longer term though from the way things have been phrased in the papers.
Thank the Lord that Carl Dickinson has returned to Watford - 5 bookings in his 5 matches for PFC - what a disasterous loan period that was
Certainly different to his namesake "Gentleman Jim", Woops...no bookings in 800? odd games wasn't it?
Yeah - but with Dicko you know what you're going to get, he is very consistent. But he didn't get a yellow on one of his games - I was a bit worried he wasn't bothering too much............
Dicko trys his hardest, but does seem to mistime a lot of his tackles - we don't want him back at FP....... You are correct Saints Alive, "Gentleman Jim" was a classy player for PFC
Legend has it that no ref ever even had to reprimand Jimmy let alone book him in 828 games. Carl certainly didn't live up to that example.
While we shouldn't mention Carl in the same breath as Jimmy (Dickinson) - no offence to Carl!! - I must say if Jimmy who i watched alot) was playing today he would have seen a bit of yellow! One of his tricks was to deliberately handball to prevent a through ball going past or over him. In those days it was just a free kick with no other consequences. Jim was also a great exponent of the sliding tackle which is almost an extinct skill, the defender making contact with the ball before the player now only giving a 50-50 chance of avoiding yellow from my observation of the Premier League. The much better quality of the pitches now also gives players a better chance of staying on their feet than in the days when the stadium was also the training ground. While Jim's discipline record does him great credit (as do all other aspects of his record) the fact that he didn't get a yellow card is primarily a symbol of the changes in the game. I wonder how many players now can go a season without getting a yellow card. Very very few I suspect.
Thanks for that PDU, that reminded me of being taught the sliding tackle at school and the teacher saying get the ball first, no matter what happens after that is all fine and dandy. On wet days the ball was more frightening than what came later.
Forgive me if I am wrong but wasn't the yellow card invented in about 1970 whilst a referee was stopped at a traffic light? According to legend anyway (or wikipedia). Although players could still be "cautioned", presumably for offenses such as attempted decapitation.
I was really dissapointed with Buzsaky. He could have been such an integral part of the side, he could have been the playmaker controling everything, he has the skills to do it, but he never put the effort in and as soon as Appleton left he's lost all interest in staying here. He wants to leave for a higher division, but he's going to have to hope people remember his displays for QPR rather than Pompey or that's not going to happen.
