The fella who ran on was in my stand and after the game he was being surrounded by many people in the concourses lots of stewards and swearing. Idiots on both sides I guess.
TSS, having stood in the Kingsland North yesterday with the players joining in a fabulous rendition of OWTS, I have to disagree 100% with your post. It was great to be able to show my appreciation in that manner. I would fully support it happening again.
Which would only be marginally more embarrassing than the white track suit that made him look like a gay version of Gary Glitter....
I'm probably a bit old fashioned that way. Teams never applauded a crowd at the end of matches or seasons, and it doesn't feel genuine to me these days when they do. Being amongst a football crowd I am way more often disappointed with the general behaviour than the great level of support. I can't overlook it, and when a bunch of professionals applaud a crowd for merely turning up and vocally watching 38 times a season, they are condoning it, in my opinion. But, after several seasons of teams doing laps of honour, the genie can't be put back into the bottle, so we get the thank you lap of honour. I spent many seasons paying to watch Saints. It was my choice. I never needed to be thanked for it. See..? Old fashioned.
He came back into Itchen thinking he would be safe amoungst fellow fans and tried to escape security. A few fans started to go fro him down the stairs towards the concourse. All I can say is good the twat deserved it. Someone should have landed one on him. I did find it amusing that he went to shake Lambo's hand and he just shunned the guy.
I see it as more of a chance to thank the players, rather than them thanking us. I guess they're thanking us, for thanking them.
Maybe they think if they're civil to the audience the audience will in turn be civil toward them. Or maybe it's just a nice gesture, the players and families seemed to enjoy it and I'm sure the majority of fans did too. What's the harm?
I think it's just a bit too Premier League for me. Posters will know that I don't really like the PL and its hype, and I feel that laps of honour have a shade of that to them, however genuine they might really be. People go on about others being a bit too happy-clappy for their tastes, well parades of honour are a bit too happy-clappy for me, I suppose. Maybe I'll get over it one day. Hopefully that answers FLT too.
