I have just re-read your post and apologise, as I read it that the away atmosphere was great. Re-reading it, you do say that the support for Nigel was great. Sorry.

Exactly Fran, time will tell,l as i said above i hope that we can get the same thing going in time with the new fella. A few posters now seem to get somewhat indignant unless you are bowing & scraping to Cortese & his new appointment. I will wait and see how things pan out with the new man, but i stick by my view that i doubt he can achieve anything that Adkins couldnt have in the long run. Will have to leave it to you to judge regarding the crumpet stakes - I have some great memories of Argentinian girls but not the blokes i'm glad to report !

Agree that Adkins was a strong possibility to get fired in the summer. Though I think if he'd had a full season with a strong second half he *might* have changed Cortese's mind.

Tough to say whether Pochetinno changed tactics or if he was more successful if he did. Adkins, especially at the start of the season, definitely tried to play a high line and more aggressive style. It just didn't work against the really good teams we were playing against at the time, and the defense had not yet adjusted to the pace of the Premier League. So he may very well have pressed against Everton in a home game with a more solid defense.

Also, the substitution pattern was similar. Some people on this forum would have been calling for Adkins's head if he had put De Ridder in. We easily could have lost to Everton, as they had the better of the second half. The difference was Boruc had a good game, and Everton missed a couple of very good chances. So it really wasn't that different from many earlier games where Saints look good early and run out of steam at the end.

I like Pochettino's style though as I think he has said all the right things. And I have to say that I like him more than I initially liked Adkins. I grew to love NA's interviews, but at first he came across as somewhat fake with his combination of managerial 101 speak and somewhat smarmy attitude while revealing little. Pochetinno seems to come across as a little more thoughtful and revealing, even if in the end it still boils down to typical say-the-right-thing manager talk.

No problem FLT, no neeed to apologise but thanks anyway. I usually appreciate and respect your posts, but its easy to get the wrong end of the stick when typing posts on a forum. If we were discussing this over a pint in a pub we wouldnt get the wrong end of the stick as you can put tone & inflection in verbal conversation whereas you cant with the written word.

Well i did, but i dont now as it is obvious that you misunderstood the point of my post. I didnt only mean you though as others seem to almost take offence if you dare to continue to stick up for Nigel Adkins managerial skill and where we may have gone with him in charge. As i said above i will ALWAYS support Saints and that includes the new manager - i just think that we had something bloody special with NA in charge and i remain to be convinced that MP will get that special thing going with us fans and do any better in the long run. I am quite willing & happy to be convinced over time though !

Huddersfield fans now convinced Adkins is their next boss. He's also the bookies favourite with very short odds.

Although one says "what are the chances of doing well with 3 clubs in a row? Slim."

    THAT'S BECAUSE HE'S A BLOODY GOOD MANAGER!!

To be fair folks there has been a variety of different opinions as to whether it was right or wrong to Sack our Nigel.
There are a few stalwarts that for me are a shade bloody minded because the majority on here seem have accepted the sacking. They seem to think we should doing weird and wonderful things to make Cortese listen to us fans. We have been accused of anything from disloyalty to burying our heads in the sand.
To those fans I say for goodness sake grow up and move up into the real world. Stop being so disillusioned as to think that we can do an awful lot about these things because we can't. Love him or hate Cortese he has done what he feels is right for the club. Not one of us on this Forum is any better qualified to run the club.
To the few stalwarts I say ok if that is your opinion fine either don't come and stop being saints fans.....or put up with it the same as the majority and lets move on. Coming on here insulting people that disagree with you will only get your ass banned. It doesn't matter who you are or how long you have been supporting Saints. Your opinions are wanted and accepted, your insulting behaviour is not.

Just because sacking Adkins was wrong doesn't mean that appointing MP is wrong as well. We can't do anything about what has happened, but we can look forward to the excitement of seeing what a different manager can do. Nicola obviously feels that the future is better with Mauriccio, so we have to trust him.

    Well said.

But it's not too surprising that there was more heat than light when NA went. Most have now taken the late Michael Winner's advice and calmed down.

If you think about it, NA's departure has been planned for a while - probably goes back to when we were very naive (e.g Spurs at home). Once the train was running, nothing was going to divert it. It's the Cortese way. Time will show whether he was right, but his track record isn't bad.

Just put a bit on Cortese and Sky thread...seems there was an input from players...Nicola sensed (as he's not a telepath, read that as was told) that team wanted to progress more.
