Good morning bummie. Agreed on Bowyer, I imagine he also wanted an assurance Taylor was not being flogged. As for quality coming in
We’ve lost half the team - and the talented half as well if you include Purrington. We need 10 players. The money freed up from Bauer leaving should go on giving Jonny Williams a contract.
Bowyer quoted in the Metro he expects upto 5 players in by next Friday. Should this be true I think this is a good indication things are moving positively with a takeover.
Money from his small budget will now have been freed up by Bauer & Aribo going, so I am guessing they are now working on Plan B.
Bringing players in from the 5th division does not fill me with confidence for the quality of the new arrivals.
^^^ apart from that one Tom Lockyer from Bristol Rovers the replacement for Bauer - who is going to Preston according to their fans on Twitter.
@lardiman and @DickPlumb Would you agree that we currently need - A keeper Two full backs Two centre halves Four midfielders A winger Two strikers = 12 players.
That sounds about right to me. Though I must admit I've lost track of everybody who has gone. I haven't heard Bowyer say yet that he is sticking by his formula for player signings in 2018-19; that he will only be bringing in players he believes are better than those we already have (or had). Does that policy / philosophy still apply to this coming season, or has it been abandoned now?
All he has said publicly is that he will be shopping in the lower leagues and is unlikely to sign a player for a fee (Bonne must be a one off in that regard) 80% of those lower league signings will have to be a success if we are going to stay up.
Tbh, Bauer was clearly leaving a while back. you could actually argue we did better to keep him as he played well last season and his final touch for us bought a promotion. Imagine if we'd sold him last august with a year left on his contract and RD pocketed the fee (always the case now) and gave us a tier 4 freebie as a replacement! I wish the BFG luck in the future, and thanks for his part at the Valley, and I hope if he turns up with Preston next season we give him an ovation (plus another one if he defends a corner the way he did for Doncasters' second in the play off semi!!)
@Royston Vasey if you are wanting responses only from the respected @DickPlumb and @lardiman can you please pm these guys? Thank you.
I’m trying to entice @DickPlumb back from our smaller sister site, where he was seen enjoying himself yesterday
