It's on! Yes Erik! I'm not saying they're going to change our season, chances are they won't. But because Cullen scored a few for the reserves he's apparently 'one for the future', however he's never impressed me. So instead of sitting on the bench picking up a tidy pay packet, why not let him earn it and show his supposed promise rather than giving him an extension to do nothing again for a couple more years. Dudgeon has looked good when I've seen him, give the boy some experience.
Maynard, Vaz Te, Cole, Carew, Sears, Baldock, did have Piquionne.... I think Wet Spam have ever combination you could imagine.
We dont thave the cash for a Jason Roberts whilst the deadwood is still on our wage bill. Its all still to play for but I think we will fall short
The majority of the deadwood aren't affecting the budget. NP was given a budget for this season and Kilbane, McShane, Ghilas, and Olofinjana (and Bullard before he got sacked) were outside of that budget. The Allams said they were meeting the costs of those players themselves, and the football club was just covering the costs of everyone else. That being the case, the only deadwood that's stopping us sign people now are Basso (only deadwood because of the injury), Harper, and Garcia, and you can maybe throw in Devitt and Atkinson as well as they'll be on more than the likes of Peet. I would have included Simpson but he's been in the squad tonight. It's not exactly a massive amount of budget they're tying up. Now this might sound contradictory having said we have virtually no dead wood restricting us, but I agree we couldn't compete with Reading for Roberts. He basically issued a come and get me plea (to anybody) on national telly over a week before Reading were in a position to offer that deal though. We should have been in there then trying to do a loan deal to the end of the season with the promise of a permanent contract in the summer if he helped us get up.
The wage bill isn't the issue, the Allam's will simply not pay one player double what anyone else in the squad gets, that ruled out Roberts, Sharp, Hammill and a couple of others.
Without wanting to get back into it yet again, that's why we would have been trying to do a loan until we were a PL club. (I think I've been quite restrained the last couple of weeks when everybody has been pointing at him asking why we didn't go for someone like him) Out of interest, ridiculous contracts aside what do we think the spread of our wages at the moment? I was talking to someone at work about the significance of Koren's signing at the time because of the situation we were in meaning he must be on way less than he "should" be given his standing/reputation. But even then, him and the million pound signings must be on a good bit more than say Dudgeon. I know Dudgeon isn't starting lineup now, but he was signed to be.
