Phone autocorrects one word and it comes back to haunt me . With Dack back though it will make a difference and Cody could still pop in with a few goals too
Just when I thought I might try to spread a bit of gloom / realism ( you can choose the word ) --- along comes brb and goes double ! Well - they do say that misery loves company - it's a mystery that Gills haven't got more fans. brb - no need to apolgise for the duplication - it's a message that needed telling ( I really hope not ). The real concern is that we just haven't been dynamic enough ( for a few weeks ), for a team in the top 4 of the league - and the level of performance does very little to convince me that we will get to Wembley - even IF we get into the play-offs. It could be worse - I'm sure Barcelona fans are just as anxious about the return leg at Athletico Madrid - especially as Messi's goals have dried up ( not scored in two games )
Realistically Barnsley might get to around 74 points. The others do not matter even if mathematics do not support this sweeping assessment. That means Gills would need 8 points to be close to certainty of the playoffs. 6 points from Shrewsbury/Port Vale and the odd draw elsewhere should get them over the line even the team is overwhelmed by Sheff U, Burton, Walsall and Millwall. In essence, it would be pretty incredible not to get there and there should be no panic at losing the next two. The problem then is that the play offs tend to be won by the team ending the season on a hot streak and unfortunately that points away from Gills and firmly towards Bradford. So, Wigan, Burton and Bradford look like the promotion best bet. No disaster for Gills who for now remain far from mature enough to survive at a higher level but a year from now and they would be strong candidates for going up and staying up........but only if this squad can stay together.
bristol407 Your overall assessment is good. The result of Wigan v Barnsley on the last day of the season may be crucial to The Gills scraping 6th ( even with a defeat at home to Millwall ! ). Luckily for us, Barnsley have yet to play Burton, Sheffield Utd, and Wigan ( ALL AWAY ) - which, on paper, may mean that they won't achieve enough points to overhaul The Gills After the game yesterday, I am still worried about our inability to score ( or create much ). In truth, Sheffield should have won - their players missed a couple of open goals, and their crosses into the penalty area were poor. If we got lucky in the play-offs, our current side would get slaughtered in the Championship - and we'd HAVE to sell Dack & possibly Egan to raise funds - thus weakening the team further. Without promotion Dack WILL go ( possibly Egan too ) - thus weakening the team for any challenge next season.
Sadly. the chance of any 'almost' successful side staying together is remote nowadays as the higher teams with their bank balances hover like vultures to cherry pick. Sad but true. If we don't make it this season it will be another re build.....
ok, now i admit this was stolen and i have not checked it's accuracy but... please log in to view this image
brb You've got too much time on your hands ! Not a bad thread -but maybe it might have been more useful with one or two games left in the season because it doesn't make the picture any clearer - because I presume ( and I'm not going to fry my mind trying to work out the figures ), that you base the final placements on the maximum points available to each club. HOWEVER It's not possible for EVERYONE to achieve maximum points ( hence the wide range of placements ). The figures are of interest - but probably of little comfort to fans of Crewe.
With Gills losing again, number of teams now in the hunt for the play offs has increased with Rochdale if they beat us only 1 point behind. Its looking very bad if we lose again on Tuesday !!!!
That's what I like to see - positivity !!! - because I was confused after the second half v Walsall, and after yesterday's dross - for a minute I thought things had already reached your assessment ! - please don't tell me to look at Crewe's position in the table. Whilst mathematically, fate is in our own hands. Our inability to score ( create ) goals is a real worry - not just NOW but IF we remain in the Play-Off places - AND, next season -- regardless of which division we'll be in (without Dack). ps-- please let me be wrong !
Yes we all no we are not playing well but only need one goal more than other team to win a match. Fingers crossed
I've been looking through the fixtures for any club that is realistically our competition over the next four games, so I did not even bother looking at Wigan and Burton sadly it does not make pretty reading. The only significant fixture (playoff place v playoff place) that is going to help us out by taking points off our nearest competitors for sure is Walsall v Bradford on Saturday 23rd. We really have to do this ourselves now and with probably the toughest fixture list of the lot! Rochdale - 8th, 4 points from us Shrewsbury - fighting off relegation and then; Burton & Millwall, need i say more But we live in hope, we can do this can't we?...
Coventry home to bradford on tuesday will be a tough game also on tuesday. If and a very big IF we can win could go level with bradford.
Seem to have run out of gas....cannot see us recovering and will drop out of playoffs now! JED keeps altering the team/formations to try and find a way out of the slump but to no avail!
Oh dear looks like Gills have blown it with 3 home defeats in a row. Only 2 home loses all season then 3 in a row. Gutted.
