Vale, I'm sure if we are relegated and next season find ourselves in the bottom half of the Championship going into February but then put together a Reading-style run to nick 6th place on the last day, then go on to beat a team that finished 20 points ahead of us in 3rd place, then win at Wembley you'll still be unhappy?...
Of course I will but on the same note if we finish 3rd and are beaten by 6th your be denouncing the system as rubbish
Exactly this.... They do it over here where the top team, no matter how far clear you are you can still lose the league Bottom 3 down..top 3 up..simples ?!
I like the current play off system. For most clubs, it keeps the regular season fixtures interesting until the very end... and then there are the playoffs to look forward to. I'd leave as is.
That's for the league title. In the FL the league title goes to the winners. Even second place go up auto.
At the end of the season all 24 teams go into eight groups of three with a round robin of fixtures. The bottom teams from each group then play in quartr-finals with the four losers relegated. The remaining sixteen are split into groups of four with a round robin set of fixtures. The four group winners then play a knockout tournament with the winner facing the best of the four relegated teams from the division above for a chance to be promoted. Problem sorted, thank you and goodnight.
The Welsh League split in two at the end of their 'normal' season and the top six play each other twice as do the bottom six. It ended up with the team finishing 6th having four points less than the team relegated! They should stick to playing with sheep!...
Just phenomenally bored revising the economics behind African slavery and the merits of using trade policy to achieve environmental objectives. My time on Not606 is directly correlated with how boring the topic being revised is.
Just said the same thing on the Cerny thread. Watford, if you've got some good stuff, do the decent thing and share it around.
If play-offs are so great, why not have them at the top of the Premier League; next four in the play-offs to decide Champs Leage, Europa Drivel etc.? Yeah, crap, innit!
As I said, it's not the playoffs themselves that make things interesting, it's the not having the dead rubber games for 75% of the teams in the league for the last 3 months. The European places already offer the same effect in the PL. We know now the money is more important though, and the money comes from the promotions. If you took them away it wouldn't restore pride in finishing higher up because the promotion money would still exist. If the leagues have been degraded it's by the money, and the playoffs are an attempt to counteract the degrading to return the sense of achievement from finishing 6th rather than 7th, rather than being the cause. btw whoever mentioned the L2 playoffs, they're not 3rd-6th. There's 4 promotion spots in L2, so it's 3 auto and then 4th-7th in the playoffs.
Well, the solution is simple in this case, matey-peeps. Split four current leagues into about six. Lots more promotions. Lots more relegations. Less of these "dead rubber games" as you call them. If the quantum of apparently meaningless games is such a big issue, I'm surprised teams don't take the cup competitions more seriously. We're all entitled to our opinions. I just happen to opine that the play-offs are crap.
