Delap just gave us something different He was good at keeping the ball while bursting through defences I'm not even sure we should start him
On track. Still unlikely, but not at all impossible as Norwich and West Brom both have tough games on Saturday.
Whatever the outcome of this season I have truly enjoyed watching Carvalho, Philogene and Delap, the improvement shown by players who were here last season especially Tufan, Greaves and Coyle and the potential of Jacob. I have also enjoyed being part of larger crowds at home matches and watching some great football. Negatives are the **** overly loud music played before home matches and some of the pedestrian stuff served up. On balance a great season where I predicted 8th place (which might still be a possibility). I've enjoyed it. Not seen enough away matches though. Need to rectify that next season. Thanks to Acun, Tan, Liam and everyone associated with the club.
The cash out on my 100 SEK bet on us to be promoted is currently 18 SEK which tells me how likely we are to make the play offs from where we are today.
Throughout the club's history, Hull City has lost only once, in 18 matches, at home against Ipswich Town in the second tier of the English league. 11 wins, 6 draws, 1 defeat.
`When the Bagpipes fear the Trawlermen, it is because they think Pilgrims will be thrown into the sea'...
Have the feeling we'll win at the weekend, but a drab 0-0 at The Hawthorns will see West Brom over the line. Going to be one nervous afternoon.
I think we need to try to get significantly ahead against Plymouth by half-time (eg three or four nil). If the Birmingham and West Brom games by that stage are still goalless, that will really crank up the pressure. Norwich would be scared we might run up the necessary cricket score, and West Brom would know we're going to win. Therefore a goal conceded by either WBA or Norwich might see us nick it.
That is the dream scenario as far as I'm concerned. West Brom will be a gibbering wreck of a team by 80 minutes and anything could then happen.
Hopefully Preston will be looking to consolidate a top half finish, with no real risk. If they win tonight, they could still be in a position to finish 8th, results depending.
I think Norwich are well and truly there now, and can't see them conceding several based on their recent form.
I wrote at beginning of season when it was being discussed who would go up that Ipswich who I think are a well run club were my dark horses. Should have put some money on it but I only bet on City. Would have made a nice profit.
I rarely bet on city – it's nerve inducing enough as it is! This is only kind of related, but I used to work with someone who, along with her partner, was a diehard Sheffield United fan. They bet their wedding savings that Sheffield United would lose the FA Cup Semifinal against City. Their thinking was they would either be in the FA Cup Final which would mean the world to them, or have a fortune to spend on their wedding. I remember her saying that they didn't know how to feel when they were 2-1 up at half-time. Ever since then I've not been able to bet without thinking about that.
A bloke I know did his training for the army with some Leicester fans and started supporting them back in the 1970s. Worked with him for a few years after he came out of the army. Used to put a bet on Leicester winning whatever League they were in and winning the Cup every season. When the factory shut down he moved away. Bumped into him a few years later at a Brid Town game when he was on a visit back home. I said to him still losing money on them? He said no he had stopped a couple of seasons ago. Two seasons later they won the PL. Next time i saw him was in a photograph on the internet with a big grin on his face as he stood on the pitch with his arm round Claudio Rainer’s shoulder.
