I'm not so quick to want to change managers as you know. As before, I certainly wouldn't want to pay off a long contract; if it's up for renewal, that's a different question.
What Sheridan has shown is an ability and the contacts to bring players in, albeit mostly on loan. We certainly need that ability from him or someone else as it seems to have got progressively more difficult to bring players down here. Will we find that from someone willing to be based in the South West?
The decision with Reuben Reid wasn't that simple. Yes, he's done very little for weeks but he is a finisher, given the right service and that's been lacking recently too.
What is more of an issue is the tactics I think. We had a good run with 3:5:2 before Christmas but I suspect other teams now know all about it and set up to combat it. I saw last night as us needing to score twice, which at our best was achievable, and that argued for starting as we finished on Saturday. Sheridan talked about not conceding any more, which I think was the wrong emphasis. As we've said many times, what's Sheridan's Plan B?
Wycombe were certainly tactically aware. The tall, somewhat cumbersome right back, Bean, was moved into midfield as soon as Banton came on. Their manager had learned that lesson.
In addition to tactics, our best performances were with Kellett and Talbot on board. THD by comparison is a liability and if we are going to go on playing 3:5:2, we need a left wingback as the loss of that channel of attack has badly affected us and the productivity of Reuben Reid and Lewis Alessandra.
It's easy not to "worry about a thing" but presumably borrowing money from the Council to pay off the administration creditors has only kicked the repayment problem a little bit further down the road ahead of us. I suspect we need promotion and the extra TV and gate money to keep the club safe in the medium term.
