Old Trafford is closer to Manchester City centre than Salford City centre, at worst they are equidistant.

In fact...why am I even having this argument, I blame Chelsea! If they hadn't won the champions league we would have a game this weekend and we wouldn't be debating this ****e!

They are hardly going to put greater Manchester on the address are they, you put the nearest City, Old Trafford is an area as well as a ground.

36 ask a United fan from the Manchester area or a City fan and I can assure you they will say the same thing.

I thought the nearest city was Salford. You've earned one of these: <doh>

Done. They didn't. It seems that United fans living in Manchester are also under the illusion that their club is based in Manchester.

Most hilarious thread in ages. Please, Joe, don't ignore him, keep it up...

Now, in response to the original question. Southampton is more middle class than Portsmouth, so are our fans ****tier, Mr. MarchingIn?

He's taken his drivel over to the City and United boards, so there are plenty of laughs to be had over there.

GMI You are a complex individual - and please that isn't a compliment!
So are you saying that before 2004 Manchester had no real team?

Moss side is in pretty much the same distance from the City centre as old Trafford.
Got to agree with joe in that I've spent a fair amount of time in Manchester and this view that it is people from Manchester that support City is just some bullshit propaganda put out there by City fans at some point and if it is said enough times people start to believe it. Most, not all, of the families I know in the area have actually got a blue and red split not in the household but with cousins, etc.

This thing about Greater Manchester, I'm sorry but your talking semantics. It's Manchester in the same way Chelsea is London, Spurs are London, etc.

Actually guys.......I don't think either club actually was all that worried about their association with Manchester at their inauguration. City were formed in 1880 at west gorton (St Marks) then changed their name to Ardwick AFC before changing their name to Manchester City in 1894. They moved to Maine road in 1923.
Man united was formed as a Railway side in 1878 as Newton heath LYR. They took up the name Manchester United in 1902 moved to old trafford in 1910.
So when both clubs were formed both were formed outside of the then City of Manchester. Later to be called the greater Manchester city area Then I believe the Greater Manchester Area.
So from my prospective neither club had any real alliance to the city itself at all!!

Typical GMI, arguing over the semantics of a minor point because his actual argument is too inane to be worth anyone's real conviction.
