Obviously he was excluded because he is too good to return to the PL and would cost more than all teams earn combined.
I actually disagree with this. Sturridge has shown him to be a capable striker without Suarez, same with Sterling. When Suarez was out suspended (not for long admittedly) Sturridge carried our team to wins with vital goals.
Suarez made both look much better than they were at the time. Studge gets goals but we scraped a few 1-0 wins until Suarez returned and then we started destroying them. Sterling was young, he's improved a lot since then.
Yeah but its obvious we would win by a bigger margin once Suarez came in for Aspas!! I think everyone in our attack had their merits and Suarez wouldn't have been as successful without Sterling and Sturridge running around him either.
If you look at the actual stats for 2013/14 you would find Rodgers did t play sas until both were fit adpfter christmas and some may recall me commenting he lucked into it. Suarez wasn't as prolific without sturridge and vice versa.
Carroll never looked good for Liverpool. I think you're altering history there, tbh. He had a few good moments (Vs Everton, City & did well vs Chelsea in the final) but otherwise he stuck out like a sore thumb in our team.
He missed 5 games that season and still got the joint record (until Salah). Had he not been suspended, I think the record will be somewhere near 40 goals currently.
Sterling's finishing is abysmal, he only gets away with it because he plays for the most expensive team in history that serves up chance after chance on a plate. Hence in the England team he's deadwood going 2 years between goals. If Sterling wasn't homegrown he'd have been dumped to the Championship ages ago.
Agree with Lucas - Sterling and Sturridge both held their own that season. Suarez was no doubt the stand out and the catalyst for the season.
Sterling and Sturridge were never as good again after, or before. Can't help but believe it's not a coincidence and that Suarez made them better... Or at very least, made them play with more confidence.
Is that really true, though? Sturridge's struggles can be put down to injuries. Sterling has been top 5 in goals and assists over the last 2 seasons! I know people dislike him for the way he left but I don't think we can deny his quality.
