This is what I love doing, finding a song I want to play, then I book mark all the different versions I can find of it. Then I'll do the version of the one I most like, looking to incorporating changes picked up from other versions. Makes it so much more interesting.

If you gave me Gessa's version I'd be, well riff there but it's a bit low key and I don't do vocals, then Sucky comes along with his version and we can make it a bit more highkey.

Ive done that with many hip hop tunes I like.

Go find the original where the sample came from (as most of the hop I like is sampled soul, motown and rhythm and blues stuff)

Probably why despite his divaness kanye West has taken over Dr dre as hip hops premier beat maker imo.

His catalog of sampled old skool tracks that he's turned into hits again is unreal tbqh

This is a great example..

After he got his fame he went back and made this out some of the tra ks a that got him there, but this time he plays them in the form that gave him the inspiration to put them on to his albums. So like music only.

Like you said above, he obviously has the same love of taking one track and morphing it into something else while still maintaining its core.

Proper Skillz, personally I think thats a beauty of a sounding album

The Beastie Boys would have loved you, they did an album where they created all their own samples and then made up bands and songs where they got the samples from and put them in the album notes as a bit of a joke but nobody noticed.

Beastie Boys were a punk band originally, and became quite accomplished musicians. I don't think it was until Check your Head that they started playing their own stuff on albums, but I think you've been reading their biography so might know otherwise

What was the album they created all their own samples and then credited it to made up bands ? <laugh> Funny **** that

I want to say To The Five Boroughs but I'm not sure and yes I only found out through reading the book.

If you have a listen to The Sound of Science compilation some of their punk/hardcore stuff is on there.

Sounds like it has a touch of the Cure about it.

Think it's just a bit different to what else is about atm, Cure's a good call. Unfortunately the lead singer has left them recently and tour is cancelled.
