At Citys level they are not good enough to play it. Most can't pass very well it end up launching it. There lies a problem for what City play up front. 4-5-1 Maynard up top = ****e. 4-5-1 Pitman up top = ****e. 4-5-1 in feb was relegation till McCinnes changed it around a bit with Stead up top.

He played in a 4-4-1-1. which was pretty much what we were playing all season under Mcinnes. it was good enough to get us safe when we looked almost certainly doomed under Millen.

He was playing with Pitman, Taylor and Wood. It was 4-4-2. Prior to Stead being inexpicably omitted it was one up top.
Dont know what you were watching mate but Chris Wood was clearly playing a lot deeper than Stead, when Pitman came on or started he also was clearly told to stay on top of midfield..

Although it was a defeat Stead and Pitman were more than decent v Cardiff[ 4-4-2], Pitman was alongside Stead v Coventry as well although sent off in the 3-1 [4-4-2]. Formations v Birmingham, West Ham, Coventry were very very different to that of Derby, Palace Leeds with five in midfield.
I reckon if we can get one more prolific goal scorer,I reckon Stead,Taylor,Pitman,and one other would be fine up top

Anyone thinking we will be playing a 4-4-2 next season will be well wide of the mark, if we get this Suso in I could see him in just behind a one up top. When you play a DM or even 2 DM's you need a central presence to connect the midfield.
Del has indicated he is looking for a more balanced, modern squad and is clearly more content with a fluid but tight midfield.

I think Del will pick the best formation against the team we are playing at the time.
Certainly do not think two up top is finished under Delboy.

The point I am trying to make is formation is all subjective, some people on here regard 4-4-2 as an attacking option (and the only one possible of scoring goals) but as I said England were deemed negative with the same tactics, yet modern coaches deem other systems more attacking 4-5-1 -- 4-4-1-1, whatever? 4-3-2-1, but our fans seem to automatically think of this as negative.
It was very rare last season Del Went with a flat 4-4-2, and when he did it seemed to be a last throw of the dice and also required both wide players to get on, to back it up, but I agree it would be stupid to disregard any option available.
IF? and a big if I know, We bring in this Liverpool kid, Do you think Del would play him in a 4-4-2?
I would doubt Liverpool would release him to us if that were the case.
