Best explanation I saw was on C5 a couple of years ago - a Secret Service officer in the following car accidentally delivered the fatal headshot when he dropped a rifle in the commotion of Oswald's first shots. Absolutely no belief whatsoever that the headshot came from the front at all, much as I loved the late Bill Hicks.
