Got one of the best keepers in the league on a long term contract. Don't see it myself. Liverpool look **** at GK. Citeh too.
I've read Lloris will be off at the end of the season if Spurs don't qualify for the CL. Might go regardless if the right offer comes along.
Then we should be taking their eyes out like they have to us on so many occassions. I don't think that would be a good move for him to be honest. I'd consider them a second tier club. Especially if they drop out of the top four. He should be holding out for a contender for me. City, Chelsea, United, Arsenal, Liverpool. Whichever of those needs a keeper as and when he decides he should leave.
Got ridiculously good money for hendo and bent. We just don't usually have assets that are worth anything. When we do we've done well recently.
If Spurs want to replace one of the best keepers in the world with Pickford, it shows we should be asking for silly money. 60 million. Why not? **** it, start negociations with 70m and a sell on clause. Start negociations rediculously high so they know it's going to be impossible to get a good deal here. Again, if he wants to stay, ignore all offers
i think that's the best fit for the lad. Learning from Cech with a manager like Wenger ticks the boxes for his future development....if he goes of course.
I think realistically, I'd be very surprised to see an offer of more then £30m refused by the club. Not just because it's Sunderland but because a crazy valuation will just make other clubs shop elsewhere. Talk of £50m plus is ridiculous for many reasons, De Gea's release clause is supposedly £52m and he's the best in the world. There'll be no takers even for him at that price though, RM only wanted him because they could have essentially stolen him. Also big money signings have to sell shirts, Pickford is (going to be) a top goalkeeper but outside of Sunderland I'd be surprised if there'd be any fan on the planet who'd walk around with his name on the back of their kit. Stick a top quality back four together and you don't need a £50m keeper, because a Joe Hart or a Petr Cech would easily suffice at £10m. There's just no club I can think of even in China, who'd spend obscene amounts on a goalkeeper, they're just not valued the same as outfield players. Maybe you'll be the ones to change that but imo, if anybody's expecting an obscene fee, they're probs gonna be disappointed if he gets sold. There's also a chance that he's the next in that rare line of players who just never leaves their home club mind, that'd be a turn-up for the books.
Would you prefer to keep Pickford and have nowt to spend in January and go with what you've got, or sell him and throw £25m (for the purpose of this thread) at the squad in the hope of improving your chances of survival?
I think any fee will be given to Moyes to improve the squad. Otherwise there is literally no reason to sell. The club are in debt but selling a prize asset who will command a big fee to offset that would be suicide for Short and show him up big time. Ashley did it with players the mags weren't bothered about selling in all honesty and gained £60m. The only reason would be to buy players to improve us as out back up keeper is one of the best no. 2 keepers in the league - especially in the lower reaches
Apart from the fact that you're £169m in the red (owed to him) and he's looking to sell the club. Never underestimate a billionaire mate, look what Phillip Green did with BHS, when they want out the last thing they care about is making friends.
Yeah true but the club still has to sell for more than he's owed for him to recoup his debt (down to the "converted to shares" - he can't sell the club for £50m then demand his money back legally due to the way he lent the money - so he'd literally be cutting his nose off to spite his face - if we go down, he'll never get his money back and if he sells then doesn't invest, the chances are we'll go down. Doesn't make good business sense to me
He wouldn't literally be cutting his nose off. It's an interesting one, on one hand he's looking to jump ship, but as you say the asset value could deplete with the sale of a good player. I think he'd need the full value up front to be tempted to sell, not many clubs pay that way.
True that. £1m is a massive sum to us paupers but to somebody who has thousands of them it`s beer money. As per Green. "Give me a quid, right, the club`s yours" If he really want gone, he will.
